Last Saturday, however, city police Officer Benjamin Deen, a well-liked and decorated veteran of the force, 34, stopped an auto at a routine traffic stop, noticed something seeming awry and called for backup. From what is known so far, everything was routine until the backup, Officer Liquori Tate, 24, a rookie who had only graduated from the police academy last June, arrived on the scene and as the two officers stepped forward toward the car, shots rang out. Both officers were shot multiple times and died upon arrival at the local hospital. Reportedly they were shot in the face and back.
Four suspects have been caught, the ringleaders being Marvin Banks, 29, a convicted felon, and Joanie Galloway, a female friend in her early 20s. Both were charged with two counts of capital murder, with Banks having added counts of grand theft auto and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Two others have also been charged; Banks' brother Curtis, two counts as an accessory and Cornelius Clark with an obstruction of justice charge. All of those charged are black. Officer Deen was white and Officer Tate black.
I highlight this case today because just this weekend First Lady Michelle Obama was at Tuskegee talking about how young blacks are under so much harassment and injustice at the hands of police, And her husband the President never misses a chance to put the police down while making excuses for young thugs who burn and loot in impoverished parts of cities the nation over.
It's literally a jungle out there, folks, particularly in large urban cities but this episode in Hattiesburg, a city of less than fifty thousand points out that our "men and women in blue" have become targets across the land. And since Obama has taken it upon himself to single the police out for ridicule and derision everywhere he goes, the number of cases of police officers being killed in the line of duty has doubled. And it's really a travesty that a sitting President sends representatives to funerals of those killed by police when they are committing crime while not only does he not recognize the officers' deaths and sacrifice by representation but he absolutely fails to even voice any concern or offer condolences.
Folks, if we allow the President and his minions to completely neuter and federalize the police, as is their desire and that of Al Sharpton, local control of community policing will be gone. This will offer another great chance for mischief which could very easily approach the level of what happened in Nazi Germany in the years before World War II. Do we want to take the chance of that happening in America? If the answer is no, it's time to stand up and speak out for our local police because, if they disappear, we will all be on our own when we need a local policeman. Think about what that would mean to your future.
This is just another example of how far America has fallen under the current President. It's time to wake up and get it right in 2016. It will likely be our last chance.
