You see, Buchanan understands Washington, D.C. as most don't. Born, raised and educated in the city, he worked in politics, has written and provided TV commentary on politics, and he can quickly pick a phony from a patriot as well as pick apart arguments for action which are likely to blow up in a politician's face. His most recent commentary tears apart the idea of using impeachment as a means of ridding America of a President intent upon tearing her down.
Buchanan correctly states that impeachment will never result in a conviction in this Congress with the Senate under control of the iron fist of Senator Harry Reid and his cohorts in the Democratic Party. That's what everyone needs to realize: impeachment means only a trial put on by the House with the Senate as the jury. What's more, with the large number of uninformed voters in America and a submissive media which will do everything it can to paint Obama as being disrespected by the Republican House, you can bet that the word "racist" would be blasted all over the airwaves and we would hear nothing but ridicule and hostility to the Republicans. While it certainly wouldn't be true since Obama has clearly violated his oath of office to uphold all laws, not just those which he likes, the average Joe would quickly lose any interest in justice and would demand that his favorite shows be brought back on television. Sad as it is, America, that's so much of what we've become as a nation: passive and unconcerned about those things which really impact us the most.
So what's to be done. Well, Buchanan says the best thing that can be done is just keep up the drumroll with demands for special prosecutors to investigate the scandals instead of allowing Eric Holder to cover for the Administration. Keep them out there in the public forum for all to say and maybe, just maybe they will finally catch on with a huge majority. The idea is good except the Obama Administration doesn't seem to care what the American public thinks. They are content to just continue working their will with illegal executive orders while goading the Republicans who are timid and fearful of dealing directly against a black American President.
Of course, John Boehner says he wants to sue the President for failing to uphold the law but it is quite likely that such a lawsuit would be turned back for lack of standing. You see, the House has the weapon in its hands to use against the President and it was granted by the Constitution. It's the power of the purse and Speaker Boehner, if he had the backbone and fortitude which should be found in a Speaker, could stop funding some of Obama's pet projects or even his White House operating expenses until he complied with law. If it were me, the first thing I would do would be to ground Air Force One and make him stay in Washington. After all, $44 million has been spent by the Obama's for personal travel (vacation time) while presiding over a country that is broke and living off increases in the national debt.
Where is it going to end? We'll soon find out and it will likely be quite ugly but I thank Pat Buchanan for dealing solidly with the nonsense of impeachment. It just won't get the job done. And until we get a Speaker of the House with a backbone, nothing to end the madness will get done. Let's hope that the Republican caucus gets a spine and puts a real leader with American Conservative values in the Speaker's chair in the next session.
