Those were the days when Jimmy Carter was President, a man of good intentions but one who had no idea how the international political world worked and he also has nary a clue about how to gain freedom for our citizens being held against their will. It took the election of Ronald Reagan to wake the Mullahs up. His promise of swift action resulted in freedom for our people post haste after the election.
Since that time, America and Iran have been at odds with the Mullahs continually threatening us because of our support for Israel and our maintenance of economic sanctions against them. A country that was originally powerful Persia, a land with a wonderful history of achievement in the arts, science and human advancement has lowered itself into a narrow-minded, closed knit society that has largely been seen as a dangerous rogue state with evil intentions on the grand world stage.
Iran has always made rumbling about building nuclear power but in recent years the growth has not only been real, it has been clearly meant for other than peaceful intent. But prior to the Obama administration, America always made clear that it would not allow any military nuclear capacity, seeing it as a threat to both America, the entire world and especially Israel. Iran has been making noise about destroying Israel for years, especially when Ahmadinejad was President.
Previously the Mullahs left the talking to him, but now they are also very outspoken themselves in publicly proclaiming their plans to destroy the "Little Satan" Israel and then, in short order the American "Big Satan". America has always taken their threats seriously since there was clear evidence of building nuclear capacity of a level and quality unnecessary for peaceful purposes. But now, with the Obama as President, we have an administration that has changed course and is publicly stating that Iran has every right to become a nuclear power while doing what it can to weaken our own capabilities.
So the idea of reaching any kind of nuclear agreement with Tehran is ludicrous. Instead of cutting back on sanctions and freeing up Iran's assets that have been frozen by us, we should be putting even greater pressure on the Iranians since they are a leading proponent of terror and destructive action today against Israel.
Our very weak Congressional leadership needs to develop some fortitude and speak out strongly on this subject and maintain punishing sanctions while fighting against any American nuclear treaty with a rogue state. We must stand with Israel in her fight against tyranny for she is the last and best hope for peace in the Middle East. If she becomes neutralized, that entire region of the world is likely to go up in smoke which will rapidly involve the West and other developed nations. We can't afford to let that happen.
And to our misguided President I say, open your eyes to the truth in the world and put your ideology aside. You have a leading role in the world and the direction you take is critical. If you stand on the side of what is right through strength, you stand on the right side of the issue. If you instead continue to allow rogue nations to run wild, the future of the world is bleak indeed. So using a statement that you love to make routinely: It's time to do the right thing. By standing against an evil regime and its evil intentions, you can help America to overcome a major threat to world peace while time is still available. What's it gonna' be, Mr. President. We await your answer.
