Why Are We Upside Down?

Take a look a the land we love, America, the place we all call home and it's easy to see that something is terribly wrong.  It's as if the nation is turned upside down, with all of the principles and guidelines that we used to judge our success and character having been replaced by just the opposite.

The nation that has led the way for the Western world since World War II is sinking fast.  Family incomes are down, nearly ninety-three million working age citizens are out of work, our healthcare has been destroyed and we have opened our Southern border to hordes of illegals who will only further impoverish a society which is going backward.

Crime is running rampant, yet rather than deal with the cause we look at all kinds of peripheral things to  blame through the rose colored glasses of political correctness.  Two issues involving police officers have received all of the focus while hundreds of young minority kids attack one another viciously and senselessly.  The government's answer is more and more control when it is itself totally out of control and lawless.

If we look beyond our borders at our two closest neighbors we see a strange contrast.  To our north, Canada, a nation founded on a heritage similar to our own is prospering, choosing a course of economic growth and less centralization under Stephen Harper.  To our south, Mexico, a land of minerals and great natural wealth yet poverty stricken above the surface, continues to go down the wrong road to prosperity by not reforming its land policies and giving her people opportunity.   We find ourselves somewhere in the middle, yet we are angling rapidly toward the Mexican result as we bring in more and more of the poverty-stricken and open our pocketbooks to their needs while neglecting so many of our own.  When a country gives up its sovereignty it is really no longer a country at all.

And there are many other huge problems which add to the dilemma we face: an education system that does not teach the children well, government agencies that have come to resemble gestapo-like bodies, and even a Chief Law Enforcement Officer who uses the race card as the basis for everything he does.  And the list could go on and on, but the real issue is how did we get this way and is it possible to salvage America?

Well, it's been slow building and a long time coming to get where we are but the answer is clear.  We got this way because we turned our back on God and the only way that we can escape our situation is to turn back toward Him.  You see, God takes care of those who live for Him and we as a society have clearly lost our way.  And until we realize this and turn back to the Way, the Truth and the Life in the manner in which we live our lives there will be no return to what America was created for and what she used to stand for.  And a key component once we get our own hearts right is to select those to represent us who also recognize Him as the guiding agent of life.  It takes good, godly people as leaders, not self-centered dishonest politicians, to direct the American experience in doing what is right.

We need to think about these things today and why not put a new plan in action starting tomorrow?  Since it will be Sunday, stop whatever plans we have and start the Lord's Day with a visit to His house to worship.  Have a one on one conversation with Him in prayer, asking him to open our hearts and keep them open so that the Holy Spirit may enter with His love and spirit.  And then, only then, will we be able to recognize the true cause of our problems: ourselves and our personal pride and desires.  If we replace them with what the Lord has in mind for us it will be amazing how we will see things change.

We will be able to evaluate what is truly important in our lives much better, see beyond our own personal desires and wishes and even evaluate those who we elect to office in a truthful fashion.  And our relations with others will improve and by our actions we can also show the light to others.  Sounds idealistic and simple doesn't it, yet the power of love and kindness is great and we might never know just who it was who decided to change based on the example we set.  Try it and I truly think you'll like it.  Just take it one small step at a time and let it grow.  God will do the rest.

This is too great a country to allow evil to settle in permanently.  Shun the deceivers and non-believers and let's put God back on our side and revive the land that we love.  God bless America.
