Granddad worked hard as a ship's carpenter and he and Grandma produced three sons who were very successful: two doctors and a business executive. My dad was one of the doctors and he always appreciated the sacrifice of his parents.
Dad worked hard to pay for most of his schooling, including four years of toil after high school to save money for college. He also devoted tireless long hours as a doctor, including home calls as needed late at night. Unfortunately it took its toll as he died when I was still a boy.
Our family was always patriotic; we just thought it was the American way. So after graduating from college I just figured going into the service was expected of me. One of my happiest moments was graduating from Infantry Officer Candidate School and serving my country.
I was also raised to believe in God and my Savior, and I just assumed that one of the reasons America became so great was because we were blessed by God. After all, Americans always stood together, fought the great fight against tyranny around the world, and jumped through hoops to help people in distress anywhere.
But today, something is terribly wrong. I hardly even recognize my government any more. Things that I was taught were wrong are now treated as if they are right and I find myself being among a large number of Christians who are constantly lectured that we are the ones who are wrong.
So now we get to the question, Who do you trust? Well, I can't answer for anyone else, but here is the answer to the question for me. I trust my upbringing, my patriotism, and my God and Savior. I know that He is right and He is our salvation. And I am sure that He looks down at us here in American and wonders why has this great country gone astray.
I remember as a boy hearing President Eisenhower's final speech as President warning of the Military-Industrial complex. Little did he know how right he was as we apparently have created a bureaucratic monster. And this is part of our problem.
But it's much bigger than that, and I think the heart of the matter is the efforts being made to destroy the Judeo-Christian fabric of America. We have lost our moral way and it is clear to see. It has shown itself in the rampant corruption of our government as it strives to be master rather than servant. Sadly, this is seen in all three branches and it is destructive to our nation.
So my trust is now in God alone; my government no longer deserves it. It no longer trusts me. It merely wants to use me. And this applies to all of you as well. It's time for us to return it to its proper place as a servant of the people. Will you join me in this effort? We all have work to do. It just must be done legally and peacefully and with the guidance of God above.
Each of us has talents given by God to use in this effort. Get involved, speak up, use the pen,get organized, demand moral and upstanding candidates for office, and then elect them. It will take hard work and effort but anything worth doing is difficult.
God bless America and let's return this great country to its constitutional foundation. Let's not lose our freedom to tyranny.
And God bless you.
