In response, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) responded with cruise missile and jet bombing strikes, said to have hit every Iranian facility in Syria, seventy in total with serious damage. The government announced that it would not allow Iran to use Syria as a staging ground for attacking the Jewish state but that it wanted the issue to be resolved peacefully without requiring more strikes.
As expected, there were some in the European and even American press spouting the Iranian and Syrian line that many Israeli missiles were shot down and damage to Syria was light, but evidence thereto has yet to come out from any objective source. I think it is reminiscent of Baghdad Bob (remember him?) when he stated that Baghdad would not fall when the sounds of air raid sirens and bombs could be heard in the background of his broadcast.
War is hell and no one wants it, but the tiny nation of Israel, at some points only six miles wide and a land which can be easily hit by a short range missile from any direction, has a right to defend itself. It is surrounded, save on the western flank (Mediterranean Sea) and is committed to maintain its sovereignty and its freedom. It is a modern, advanced nation, a leader in high technology, surrounded by many peoples who are still living in the equivalent of medieval conditions, where women and children are often treated as chattel, sometimes worse. The narrow-minded and tyrannical Mullahs of the Iranian theocracy, almost bankrupt without the prop up which America gave them with the one-sided nuclear deal. are finally being seen for what they truly are. The deal was a sham. Trump knew it, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu knew it and the Mullahs knew it, laughing at America all the way to the bank in glee at how stupid our government was in negotiations.
I hope and pray that major war can be avoided, but when you're dealing with a terror state like Iran shades of past history comes to mind. When tyranny strikes, those who believe in freedom must stand up. If not, it will be lost and not likely be regained.
