There is only one serious problem with their approach. They use all of their resources to support squishy moderates and RINOs who they entice to run for office and, in doing so, they aim their big guns not at the Democrats but Conservatives who are seeking to run against them in the primaries. One need look no farther than last summer's disgraceful Cochran campaign in Mississippi, where former Governor and RNC chair Haley Barbour went to despicable depths to defeat young Chris McDaniel, a fine rising Conservative and lifelong Republican, a man who was trying to bring out the conservatism in the Party to replace the clearly over-the-hill Cochran. That the Establishment was successful is noted by the use of false advertising to sway Mississippi blacks to vote in the Republican primary. They developed fear in their hearts by basically calling another Republican, a fine man, a racist. How despicable and it's something that I will never forget.
And, of course, then all you have to do is fast forward to the last several weeks and watch them aim the big guns on Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, two courageous young Senators who had the audacity to ask why the leaderships was supporting illegals and fat budgets over the wishes of the voters. After all, the Republican base voters, clearly seeking a change in direction, wanted Obama's amnesty and bankruptcy attempts stopped, only to find the Party apparatus renege on their promises and throw in with Obama instead.
Over the last two Presidential election cycles, we have seen Republicans lose miserably. John McCain, running as a clear moderate in 2008 against the upstart and clearly unqualified Obama, refused to address the man's record and was accordingly shellacked. And then just two years ago, Mitt Romney, a fine man but also one of clearly moderate persuasion, allowed Obama to tell lies about the international scene and refused to fight back when, during the Candy Crowley moderated debate, he could have stood his ground and gained traction with the public.
So here we find ourselves only two years away from another Presidential election and the party machine wants once again to tell us what is good for us. Jeb Bush is their answer or, if that doesn't work out, perhaps another go with Mitt or even loudmouth Chris Christie, one of the most bombastic and rude individuals I have ever seen working under the Republican banner. All of these men are clearly in the favorites camp for the Establishment, for they know that any of them will answer first to the Chamber of Commerce and the internationalists, choosing to work closely with the Left for, as John McCain puts it, "comity'. Meanwhile the base Republicans, the good God-fearing and nation loving people who work hard and pay their taxes are supposed to sit back and vote for them while their life and their savings are ravaged by those who only seek what the powerful want.
So here's the bottom line. While it is true that the elites of the Party have the money, we in flyover country have the votes and we must learn to use them for what we know is right and not be kowtowed by Establishment hype. And the best way for us to do that is to have the large Conservative contingent of Republicans coalesce behind one good Conservate, for we've seen how putting up multiple candidates results in a RINO win. It won't be easy, but perhaps planning for a Conservative wing convention and using it to reach the conclusion of a single candidate might be the best way to go forward. Let's ponder that over the Holidays and come out swinging in January.
Why January? Well, when the new Congress is sworn in, we will once and for all know what the Boehners and McConnells of the party really will do. They can't avoid a decision beyond that time and, sadly, they will probably just punt again. If so, it's time for us to punt them right out of our lives and work for major change.
Remember, anything worth doing or having isn't easy, and this certainly won't be. But it's the right thing to do and maybe, just maybe, we will be able to put American back on solid footing. With God's help and guidance, I truly believe it's possible.
