In recent years the top leaders have lost sight of what is expected in a Constitutional Republic. They have been relegated to being political hacks, putting the welfare of their force secondary to an agenda that seems hell bent on social change and weakness. I am referring to the top brass in the Pentagon, those high ranking civilian and military personnel who refuse to stand for preparedness and readiness. These people, both civilian appointees in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, particularly the current chairman, seem to readily support the elimination of the God element from "God and Country" and serve to enforce social experiments more supportive of equal opportunity quotas than preparation for warfare. They also seem to be unable or unwilling to challenge the President's views on proper use of the military, a duty-bound task of a true military patriot. They don't even offer a whimper of objection, marching off in a direction which leads us to the possibility of an Armageddon in our future.
This type of mindset is rapidly degenerating combat readiness to a level where the very heart of America could be in danger from an opportunistic enemy, including an assault which could be initiated both from without and within our national boundaries. And morale, well, if you have a family member who is on active duty they'll tell you clearly in private that they are not being allowed to do the things that were expected when they joined up.
Point Number 1: Benghazi. When General Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, testified before Congress I thought he disgraced himself and his uniform. He seemed to lack knowledge, couldn't really answer any questions and frankly, appeared to be just using fabricated talking points. We let four men die savagely through lack of action. Several fought on valiantly through the night expecting support that never came. This just a few years ago would have been unheard of.
Point Number 2: Readiness. The biggest setback is probably in the morale department as seasoned military, those with the experience needed to train and develop new personnel, are leaving the service in droves. The Air Force has significant pilot shortfalls largely caused by lack of flight time and the Navy finds itself with a dwindling fleet of ships at a time when the Chinese and Russians, not to mention Iran, are rattling sabres while Obama seems to notice nothing. His only concern seems to be gutting the budget selectively in Defense while over extending our forces around the world at the same time. Meanwhile, he pushes to make sure that the quota of women to men is improved by lowering physical standards to make them easier to attain. Even the Marine Corps, our most traditional group which stands for strength and resolve, is now reluctantly going along. I ask all Americans, whether you be a woman or a man, do you want someone "having your back" in a foxhole who is not physically capable of the task at hand? I don't think so.
Point Number 3: Persecution of Christian Personnel. The Pentagon seems to have an ongoing war against Christians in uniform. Chaplains are subject to harassment, told not to mention Jesus Christ while Christmas trees were been banned on some installations and even chapel steeples have been removed. And this begs the question: If America is drawn into war, would you rather have an officer corps of Christians, believing in a religion of love, or a godless cadre of officers with an amoral or immoral outlook? That's where we are headed if something doesn't change and it is hard not to believe sincerely that this is all part of a master plan by the President.
America's military is being made a whipping boy today and it's leaders should be ashamed of themselves. They have given up their responsibility to be strong and to fight for what they believe is necessary, or else all of the senior Defense appointments from Chuck Hagel on down openly support the end of America's greatness. I mean really, folks, can you imagine a Douglas MacArthur or Creighton Abrams acting this way? Where, oh where, is a man like Peter Pace at a time like this? Someone needs to stand up.
If they won't, we must. Wake up, speak up, and demand action by Congress to counter this wave of out-of-control social engineering and potential destruction of the one government entity that usually works well. If the military staff won't stand up for itself, then we need to find leaders in the legislative branch that will. After all, the Senate is complicit by its easy confirmation of this group which certainly doesn't rate as a "Band of Brothers".
Let's start to work on changing this in 2014, the first year where we can speak by our votes. Use this as another reason to demand fresh faces in Congress, men and women who see the value of a strong military committed to its traditional task, not a social welfare approach. Demand the expression of positions on this by all candidates, search their records for what they have or haven't done in the past, and act accordingly at the ballot box.
God bless those who try to serve in the military in a way that does honor to its traditions despite the current pressures. And God bless each of you as well. Stand up and be counted; America is to important to allow her to sink into oblivion.
