Yesterday to the surprise of many, the President showed up in the early afternoon in California of all places. California, sometimes laughingly called the land of fruits and nuts, the center of active opposition to their own nation with sanctuary status and a willingness to spend massive sums in tax money on things unnecessary, while avoiding those things which should never be put off, like the massive wildfires that currently ravage the Golden State while also creating havoc in neighboring Oregon and Washington. And after his arrival and a short impromptu press conference, he met out of courtesy with Governor Gavin Newsom who was uncharacteristically polite in his meeting with the President. Now Newsom needs the federal government since he no longer has the finances to do those critical things like fire prevention that need attention, yet Newsom tried to focus on the need to enlist the President in supporting his push for responding to climate change as the one thing that needed to be dealt with to solve the crisis.
President Trump was calm and cool as he listened, but when everything was on the table, he stated that what the Governor's problem really was involved the lack of attention to what the Forest Service had not done and to get corrective action underway rapidly. He offered both financial and manpower support, yet I know not for sure what response he received, but throughout the meeting was cordial and civil, so it least it gives signs of hope.
Here's the issue in a nutshell. In all three of the states under siege, Washington, Oregon and California, the perfect foundation of the perfect firestorm has been growing for years. In the arid West Coast climate once removed from the coastal plain, the forests have massive volumes of fallen trees and branches, a heavy carpet of decay and dried leaves and brush below the canopies of the trees over large areas of woodland. This underpinning serves a fuel for a fire, and when the wind blows, it is only a matter of time before a fire will start. Maybe it is from a careless hiker or camper, one who threw a cigarette on the ground or forget to clearly extinguish the fire of a campsite. Or maybe it was because of a hot electrical wire coming in contact with a tree in a storm, sparking a fire to start in a remote and difficult location. Perhaps the fire started from lightning bolts during a not uncommon dry thunderstorm. And we also can't dismiss arson since in recent years it has been used by those who are filled with hate. Even now in these days of riots, at least fourteen have been arrested and charged with arson. So, with the heavy build up of a ready fuel source, it is only matter of time before a spark alights the fuel which creates a growing fire driven by the wind. And this is not attributable to anything other than errors in judgement by people in their interaction with nature.
Trump went out there, identified the problem and has offered the solution, yet it requires the opposition to take his kind offer and once and for all clean out the deadwood and get realistic about their options. This is pure Trump in operation while, in the meantime, his Presidential election opponent offers gibberish and platitudes from the safety of his bunker. And the contrast that shows is exactly why freedom loving Americans support Trump and will reelect him in about a month and a half. And as for old Joe, I hope he will realize soon that it is time for him to go home, rest and do what he can to retain as much of his real life as he can until his time is over. And that's my bottom line for I wish Biden no harm, but just know that what he offers is not marketable since no one is buying. Sometimes it just boils down to the plain old truth and only the truth. And that is my take on another issue on another day in the politics that is America.
