ISIS clearly is evil; its heart has been hardened and its soul dissipated in its commitment to torture, rape, and kill by the most horrific means. It's at a time like this when an Army needs a man like a Patton who relishes taking the battle to the enemy and destroying him. Unfortunately, we today have a man like Dempsey who seems to cower behind the President and limply follow his direction without question.
Obama's speech Wednesday night was really nothing more than a joke. Seriously, how can you wage war on an enemy while not acknowledging who they are. The IS in ISIS stands for the Islamic State, yet Obama clearly chose to say that these terrorists aren't part of Islam. Really, Mr. President, you could have fooled me and I think them as well. And then we heard John Kerry blabbering on about how we will be relentless in halting their actions but will under no conditions put boots on the ground in direct combat. He also refuses to acknowledge that the enemy is radical Islamic jihad. Tell that to ground forward observers who will be tasked with directing air strikes. They're moments away from direct contact by design; it's the only way we can be sure exactly where the prime targets are.
So since Obama has indicated we will meet our objective using the ground forces of other nations along with our air power, who are these others forces. Well, one is not Britain, our strongest supporters during the Iraq War. And a nearby nation, Turkey, a NATO nation, has told Kerry they will not support the effort and will not allow us to use their air bases. Today even Syria and Iran spoke up because Syria realizes that Obama really wants to use this as a ruse to allow toppling Assad. And there is no word from Germany yet as well.
We'll have to see who does support us but a coalition to the degree that George Bush had on line is not likely to be fielded. The problem is no one trusts Obama and they don't think he has a solid strategy to do the job. Air power alone won't come anywhere close.
Meanwhile, Russia, which supports Assad to the hilt is starting to make some noise. Is Obama ready to put us into battle against Putin, a man who has been building up his forces while Obama has been destroying ours. We are in no condition to take on Russia in a war right now.
If we truly want to destroy ISIS, and that's what we need to do if we want to end this Islamic terror threat to America and the world, then unleash the power on the real enemy that we have and get the job done. To do that we have to admit who the enemy, Islamic jihad fanatics. If not, just bring our boys home and put forces on the border where we need protection. We could have our Southern border shut tight in no time and at least that could end the problem that right now is most important to national security.
America hasn't won a war since World War II, and it was bloody, brutal and effective and it worked. Hitler and Tojo both had their evil ambitions ended with nothing but raw power. Had we not "put the pedal to the metal" in Gemany, Werner von Braun and the other scientists would have soon perfected their rockets to destroy us. And if President Truman didn't have the "guts" to give the go ahead with the atomic bomb, we would have probably lost another million American soldiers and much greater numbers of Japanese trying to invade their imperial homeland.
Our recent failures have nothing to do with the capabilities of our troops. American military forces always perform above and beyond what is expected. But when Congress ties their hands and they can't do what they're trained to do, or a President is incompetent and surround himself with unqualified "yes" men, our military success plummets, death tolls rise and our troops become demoralized. It's just a sad fact.
I pray that I am wrong about what is about to happen in Iraq and Syria, but I know we'd be better off with Assad remaining in power than the growth of ISIS. And if we give more weapons and supplies to so-called friendly rebels in the region, sooner or later those weapons will be used against us. Sadly, we are headed in the wrong direction. God help America.
