- Refrain from Victory in Jesus by Eugene M. Bartlett, 1939
This morning as I headed out for church it was very dreary and damp with the signs of a cold snap underway. I had been reading about the plight of some of my Christian brothers and sisters in faraway places and felt a little downhearted and knew that I needed the spiritual uplift which I always receive on Sundays at church. At the finality of our service, the closing hymn was Victory in Jesus, a very beautiful hymn which should make any sinner feel better as long as they understand His importance in our life.
After church, Sunday school was a small group for my class as a number stayed home today because of inclement weather. But discussing the Book of Isaiah and how God has his special way of teaching us the consequences of our choices, my energy and spirits were raised knowing that many great men and women have labored on in His name to spread the truth in an effort to improve mankind. And regardless of the outcome of their efforts, God knows who follows Him through Jesus Christ and who doesn't and we are rewarded accordingly. And that should be comforting to those who do and be seen as a warning by those who don't, yet it still rests with each of us and our own free will to make the ultimate choice.
And as I left the church to head home, suddenly the clouds parted and a bright winter sunshine enveloped everything within my sight. And I thought to myself that God sent a small little sign of the Light that is real living when we find our way with Him.
As that beautiful hymn quoted from above reminds us, there truly is Victory in Jesus and I pray that all find the beauty, love and joy that He wants each of us to have in our lives. All it requires is for us to believe in Him, follow Him and trust Him in all that we do. God bless you all.
