Prior to the vote, the US Ambassador to the UN, ultra-leftist Samantha Power, a woman who believes that you can negotiate the resolution of any issue without any evidence of strength and security, took a moment to visit with the Russian Ambassador, Vitaly Churkin. While she stood there in very animated fashion trying to sway his view, Churkin just looked at her in a very stoic fashion while his staff aides stood by laughing at the US Ambassador who was, frankly, making a fool of herself. Churkin knew, as Putin knows, that the US has absolutely no intention of doing anything significant that will hamper Russia's goals. And besides, didn't the West precipitate the problem by forcing the elected leader of the Ukraine out of office?
Shortly after she returned to her desk, the Security Council resolution was vetoed by Russia. And that was it, three strikes or a tackle before the goal line before time ran out, game over. And Ms. Power showed that her arrogance in thinking that she was talking from a position of strength when she is one of those who has favored weakening America is absolutely wrong. Worse yet, it shows just what a dangerous position Obama has put America in, and that is why the Russians were laughing. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words: this one is worth a million.
We certainly can't say that the Allstate motto rings true for America right now. We certainly aren't in good hands with Obama. Successful negotiations with major nations of opposing values always requires great strength behind them. Sadly, the issue concerning the Crimean Peninsula is over; the Russians have won.
