Well, he focused much more clearly in the last few days, and he presented himself more directly to New Hampshire voters than he had been doing in Iowa and the results show that yes, he does have star power but, more than that, he has staying power with his vision for making America great again. The result was a big payoff as he captured New Hampshire's primary last night, garnering 35% of the vote, 19% per cent more than his surprising closest rival, John Kasich. The rest were bunched up tightly with Ted Cruz at 12%, the hapless Jeb at 11%, Rubio 11%, Christie 8%. Fiorina 4% and Carson 2%.
And now it's on to South Carolina where Trump shows a significant lead, but one which is likely to narrow as the actual vote draws near. Yet he does show resiliency and I think that the bombast is not something to be seriously taken, for he is now putting on a show and once the dust starts to settle I think Trump will be all business. And with his business acumen and willingness to talk honestly, I think should he be the nominee that he will go after the choice, be it Bernie or Hillary, with all the resources in his arsenal. I'm betting that they won't be able to stand up to the withering pressure.
Now this is by no means a done deal, folks. While I don't think Kasich will play well in the upcoming Southern states, Cruz should do well and Rubio will have his followers although I think his luster is gone. But if Trump can win a string in a row in the near future, it is going to be much more difficult for the others to keep the campaign going financially. Donors are truly fair weather friends.
I'd still like to see Trump and Cruz come together, for I see the two of them combined in a Trump-Cruz ticket to be a power to reckon with. But only time will tell and that's a subject for another day. So take a breather from the talking heads, then get ready to hear the chatter full speed ahead for the days and weeks to come. Political rhetoric won't be quieting down until after the big show in November. Time to just grin and bear it, that's the course.
