Another memorable experience was returning from Roanoke Island to the beach late at night after visiting family in Wanchese. As we crossed the Baum Bridge from the island to Nags Head, off to the right was small but distinctive sight of Bodie Island Light about eight miles away, penetrating the dark night sky and its result was often our breaking into a chorus of the words of the spiritual as well. Special moments they were and they created a mindset that led to furtherance of my understanding of the Light of LIfe. Both cases were most enjoyable moments that we just took for granted at the time, but with maturity it became clear why they were meant to be.
The Light of Life is what we all need, for no one wants to live in darkness. But if not exposed to this magical Light, we seek something to replace the darkness but don't know what to do and without His love and guidance, we often falter. And the sad part is that to find the Light, we don't have to look far, for it is right inside us. All we have to do is to activate it, and the Spirit of the Living God then comes alive inside us. How do we activate it? Simply put, all we have to do is open our heart and seek it out and we'll find it readily there, waiting to help us connect with the Light of Life, our Lord. If you learned that little hymn as a child and as you matured you realize what it really meant, then it should today be in your heart and keeping you strong and on track to eternity. If not, just take it from me, and put a little WD-40 on that rusty old hinge to your heart and open it wide. You have to swing it open and shut a few times to make it work effectively, but over time, it will provide what we all seek. It does take practice like anything worthwhile. But with that practice, when you seek, you shall find and the Spirit will come out and smother you with the warmth and comfort of the Light of Life. That Light is also the Light of the World and when we put Him in control of our lives, we will all begin to really live with purpose, joy and love. I'm going to keep that Little Light Shining in my heart and and I hope you will, too.
