Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also: and from now on you know Him and have seen Him."
- John 14: 6-7 (NKJV)
Poor Thomas, he had so much trouble understanding things without being able to actually see the proof before his very eyes. Jesus had spent the past three years preaching and training his Disciples about His very nature and the Truth of what He came to do yet they had so much difficulty comprehending it. Thomas was the most skeptical of all, but He so loved Jesus and wanted to understand.
The discussion took place near the conclusion of the Last Supper and Jesus was trying to give them some final guidance and reinforce His message, for He knew after He was gone, each of them would look back and understand what was meant by His words. As the Way, Jesus was the route that they would have to follow to ultimately remain one with Him and, at the conclusion of this life, join Him in Eternity. The Truth was what He was, for Jesus was living, breathing truth and every word uttered and every action taken was what was expected of all of His followers. And the Life, the ultimate gift, was what He offered. If they followed His route to Salvation, they would speak and follow only the Truth with the outcome being Eternity with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in heaven above.
And Jesus would soon be taking the final steps necessary to make this final outcome possible for all mankind, for His death would provide forgiveness for all sinners. The only thing remaining was for each individual to take Him up on His offer and believe, for only by believing in Him could this gift of all gifts be received. And Jesus wanted His Disciples to be ready after He was gone to carry that message to the ends of the earth.
And from this simple beginning with this small group, the Gospel spread to all corners of the earth and was accepted by millions and millions in every nation of the earth. His message was carried forth successfully and continues on to this very day. Will you do your part to spread the Gospel?
Praise His Holy Name. Hallelujah!
