And something else on the horizon is starting to show signs of brightening: the direction of our country. It's beginning to look like the Obama Administration is overstepping the boundaries of constitutional government to the point that a major backlash is building, a backlash which might even be noticed by the huge numbers of our citizens who have been oblivious to politics. Even the MSM is having difficulty hiding it. This is a good sign, for our political process only works the way it is meant to work if citizens pay attention and get involved.
Over the last several generations, Americans have become very complacent and, frankly, we've been a "me" society. Now I'll be the first to admit that we all must look after ourselves and our own interests, and this is particularly important if we have a family to care for and feed. But it seems to be much bigger than that. We look for instant gratification and constant entertainment so that we can avoid facing reality. Yet we live in the here and now and must face reality or else we are likely to lose control of ourselves and our freedoms. And if we will all bring the living God back into our active lives it will make the task much easier; he is waiting to help.
Our lack of attention has resulted in self-centered politicians feeling free to change things in ways we couldn't imagine just a few short years ago. While we've looked elsewhere, more concerned about the Sunday football games or which glamorous star has done the most outlandish thing, drastic changes have taken place ase the politicos hide their true actions in lofty words and the provision "freebies" to large numbers of citizens. They are sure this will placate "the masses" and get them out of their way. Just give them food stamps and lots of other "stuff" and they, the political elite, can go about their business of fundamentally changing the United States of America.
But the people do appear to be finally awakening to what's happening. Maybe it's the sluggish economy which shows signs of falling much farther, or the President's attempts with the help of many in Congress to violate the Constitution by eliminating some of our God given rights. Then again, there is the Benghazi fiasco which they are trying to roll under the rug even though four citizens were killed and, of course, Obamacare, which is turning out to be an unmitigated disaster of federal incompetence. And then there is what is, to me, the icing on the cake of tyrannical action: the active harassment of Evangelical Christians throughout the country by government officials and the media.
These and many other things have happened which are lighting the fire for liberty, and once it is blazing the momentum will take over. Americans in huge numbers clearly don't like the direction we are headed.
We Americans want the truth and honesty. We want an end to the dastardly political correctness, and a return to constitutional government. We want our elected officials to tackle those problems which impact us citizens, not the trumped up issues that the Left wants to impose on us. Help us fix the economy, halt the out of control spending, secure our borders and just otherwise butt out of our lives. Look at any poll out there and you'll see that gun control and comprehensive immigration are hard to find as a priority.
"The sleeping giant" that is America has always been slow to rise. But, as in World War II, when it does finally rise it rises with a determination that cannot be denied. I pray this day that this is now happening and that it will continue until we return the land we love to its heritage and destiny. God help us do so, for the sweet smell of Liberty is clearly in the air.
