The horses stood patiently by the pasture gate, waiting to run to their stalls for their morning breakfast. Goliath and his sidekick Molly sat quietly waiting to playfully chase the horses in as dogs like to do. And the cats, well the cats were perched in the barn waiting for their feed bowl to be filled (I always empty it each night after dark to ward off pesky raccoons and possum).
As I unlatched the pasture gate and watched the action unfold, I marveled at the way God had created all of these wonderful creatures and how they respond so well to kindness and love. They are a constant reminder to me of our responsibility to carry out our dominion over all living ways in a thoughtful and compassionate manner.
And I also thought of the contrast of this scene with what we embarrasingly see as the continuing disfunction of the American government. The lack of common sense and moral guidance, as well as the continuing display of financial stupidity which is repeated over and over threatens to destroy this great land and replace it with squalor and need. What a disgrace to behold. I only pray that God will give us the strength to always stand for the right and never surrender our love for liberty and freedom. We can overcome this situation but only with His help and guidance.
