Hillary won the coin toss, going first and having to fend off questions about the ongoing email scandal. Even Matt Lauer was surprisingly frank and Hillary after a short time showed her visible displeasure with the length of the questioning. She also slammed Donald Trump at any possible moment but it really had little impact. In fact, the most visible impact was from the questioning by a retired Navy Commander who directly stated that if he had done what she had done with emails, he would now likely be in prison. She responded by saying she had followed the rules which we know is inaccurate, saying that she always guarded classified material properly.
For Trump's performance, the answer he gave about strategy to rid the world of ISIS and radical Islam was spot on although the media has chosen to try to broach it the other way. He clearly stated that he would not give specifics about the military actions he would take since that would tell the enemy what was coming, just the opposite of the approach Obama used with his published withdrawal timetables. The Donald was right on the mark; surprise is a major factor in conducting a major military effort successfully. Can you imagine if Ike had told Hitler exactly where and when we would invade France in 1944? Instead he even set up a false Army under George Patton to confuse the Germans. Surprise is so important it should always be employed.
All in all, this writer would have to give the edge to Trump since he handled himself professionally and stayed on point while Hillary continued to make excuses. He also clearly stood on the side of the military and their mission. The upcoming first debate in a few weeks should tell us more.
The heat is now on full force and the successful candidate will be the one to convince the broadest spectrum of voters that he or she is best suited. Trump is working hard on it; Hillary is still largely hanging back. Can she handle the rigors of a vigorous campaign as Trump is already doing? We'll soon find out.
And before we go, don't you want to know about the funny ear ornament she was wearing? Was it a listening device? Stay tuned on social media, the answer will certainly come out at some point. It always will.
