It starts with Devin Nunes, the California Congressman who heads the House Intelligence Committee. Nunes has been the initiator of action to get to the bottom of the truth about why a Special Prosecutor was appointed to investigate the Trump Administration. And with the recent revelations about the Christopher Steele Russian dossier, a made up story funded by the Democratic National Committee and the clear malfeasance by some high level Justice Department and subordinate FBI officials, the entire basis for Robert Mueller's appointment may be false. From the actions, or lack thereof, of both the former Attorney General and FBI Director, to holdover Obama Administration officials in both entities as well, it is clear that we have a major scandal on our hands just waiting to break wide open.
Part of the blame rests squarely on the back of the Fourth Estate, the media, which is supposed to report the news honestly and completely, not hide it from the reading and listening public. And if this unfolding situation had the coverage that was given to Watergate, it would make Watergate look like a Sunday school picnic by comparison.
Congressman Nunes, a bird dog on the issue and one who has been subjected to threats and vile statements, has complied a memo containing key quotes from some of the Justice-released materials put together with identification of the sources and he plans to release the documents for the public to see. Over two hundred Congressmen have reviewed the document privately and the general consensus is that the material is damning to those seeking the ouster of President Trump. It makes all the sense in the world that our elected representatives should put this document up for a full review by the taxpayers who they are elected to represent. And as more and more additional information comes out, it becomes abundantly clear that "something is rotten" in our Nation's Capital.
We have a Special Prosecutor, Robert Mueller, a man appointed by an Obama supporter , Rob Rosenstein, who was also the career mentor for James Comey, the former FBI Director, investigating the duly elected President of the United States and claiming to be bi-partisan. We also have the FBI's head of counterintelligence, Peter Strzok, and his mistress, Lisa Page, an FBI attorney, who messaged one another with anti-Trump rants who were serving on Mueller's team initially. It doesn't take a genius to realize that what we have is a partisan set up and one which very likely is based on no valid reason for its initiation in the first place.
It is now time to #ReleasetheMemo and the other materials as they are reviewed and let the American people decide what's true and not. A democratic republic cannot survive under a cloud of deep suspicion and possible outright tyranny. And now that we have the FBI stating that many of their recorded records are missing (for five months right up to the day of Mueller's appointment). the stench is growing. We will either operate this land as the democratic republic that it was constitutionally designed to be or it will be turned into a banana republic. And it makes me ponder a thought that I never really wanted to entertain. Is turning America into a banana republic just what the transformation of America was meant to be when Barack Obama began using the term nine years ago. After all, this rising scandal is just an extension of Fast and Furious (ATF gunrunning and the death of a Border Patrol agent), the IRS scandal (remember Lois Lerner and the use of tax rules against Conservative non-profits) and so many other similar actions that occurred in our recent past.
Honesty and transparency are the only ways to end this madness. Open the records, let the chips fall as they may and deliver the truth. Only the truth will clear this up and it is what is needed for America to be all that she can be. And when the dust clears, I don't think it will be Donald Trump who will be leaving Washington. I can't say the same about his detractors.
