- Proverbs 19:21 (ESV)
When you pick up the paper or peruse the internet each morning, it is very easy to become distraught and deeply worried about the future. Brutality and slavery run rampant in parts of the world, the economy is teetering near breakdown, politicians promise so much and deliver so little, and mortal man of weak heart sees no end in sight. But if we believe the words from Proverbs and the promise of the Holy Spirit, there is no reason to fret about the future. There is, in fact, every reason to have hope and optimism in everything we do if only we first make one simple commitment.
We have to make the commitment to believe in, and live for, Jesus Christ. The Son of God who was sent to earth to rescue us through His death on the Cross has fulfilled His mission. And while we don't know the date or time, He will return in glory to rule the world and banish sin. So in the meantime, it is up to us, individually and with our free will, to open our hearts and let the Holy Spirit in. The Third Person of God will help us conquer our fears through faith and directly open the connection for us to the Son of God, the Savior, who will in turn directly connect us to the Father. And since He loves us and wants the wonders of His gifts to be granted to us, we merely have to make that decision and work daily to keep it alive in our hearts and in everything we do.
So if the world is in turmoil and the norms of life seem to have been turned upside down, we can survive it if we individually look at where our real and ultimate future is found. It's not on earth with mere mortals like ourselves for this is just a passing stage in our development. No, it's with the One who loved us so much that He gave us the keys to His Kingdom through His Son. Throw off the chains of worry and sin and live for Him. Then, and only then, will the real future be unveiled and begin in our lives.
Dear Lord: Thank you for your loving us and for giving us a real future, one filled with joy and beauty and not with pain and suffering. Help us to open ourselves up to the promise of the future through you and make the commitment needed to really live. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
Have a great day, God bless you all and God bless America.
