America needs someone to take the issues to the voters without the formal handling first by professional political hacks who want to keep all comments within the acceptable range of the National Republican Committee. That can only be done by a man like Trump, who has enough money that he doesn't have to kowtow to the donor class and thereby water down his message.
I've been saying for a long time, folks, that we have a real truth problem. I've written about it and I've talked about it on my radio program and I know that most Americans in their hearts know that is so. And for this reason, even if there is no other, Donald Trump is refreshing. We need the truth. We need to face the issues that we have and we need to be candid about. Donald Trump will at least be someone who will put those things on the table where they can't be ignored.
Trump can be brash, he can be charming, he can be a lot of things, but the best part about the man is he is willing to get out there and tell the truth. And in doing so he is not fearful of what the political class says about him. In fact, I think he actually relishes their scorn, which he can turn around and use to tell the voters I told you so. He doesn't need their support and he knows the public doesn't like them either, so it works to his advantage. It lets him open the door on backroom politics.
Love him or hate him, I'm glad he's thrown his hat in the ring. I think it's refreshing and I think we might learn something. Will he pull a Ross Perot as so many of the pundits think? No he won't and for several reasons. Remember Ross Perot from the outset was an Independent with a grudge against George H.W. Bush. Trump doesn't fill that bill because he's entered the Republican fray directly and he made it explicit last night on the Mark Levin Show that being a divider is not his goal. Instead, his goal is to tell it like it is and see where the chips fall.
I like the idea. I think it's healthy for America. And I don't think changing the way we do business is a bad idea. So let the others say that his desire to have a wall along the border and his plan to put Mexico in its place won't work. Why? Because the others can't truly give a good reason for their reasoning. Americans are sick of being the dumping ground for welfare seekers.
So let's give the criticism a rest and see where he takes his campaign. Am I a supporter of his candidacy today? No, but I want to hear him talk and compare his comments with the others and let's see how it is received by the American people.
Could I be a supporter of his candidacy for the nomination? I won't rule it out absolutely and I want to learn more. But I am adamantly opposed to the DC pundits already writing the man off when they have been largely silent on the destruction that today is American politics. Who knows? Donald Trump could be a great big surprise to us all and if his campaign becomes a menu for real conservative change I'm more than willing to look at it.
Thanks for entering the fray, Donald. We know you have plenty of other things you could be doing but I truly believe you are doing this because you believe in America as we all do. I salute you for it and wish you well on your journey. And stick to your guns and don't worry about the pundits; they are going to be against you anyway.
Just tell it like it is, Donald, tell it like is and welcome to the American political jungle.
