Beginning as a young boy and continuing throughout my life, there has never been a place where I feel closer to God and where I can talk with Him openly and seek His wisdom than during a morning sunrise on the sea. On a stormy day it shows his power. On a calm day, it shows his love and desire for us to live in peace. On those occasions like the one pictured, where His message is even more directly displayed by what my eyes see, I don't even have to ponder things first. Even on days when it is gray and dreary, the coming of light over the ocean just opens me up to the grace and love of His light. Nature can do that for us and, of course, it even does it for me anywhere I might find myself where trees, a sunrise, or even just a deep blue or cloudy sky can do it if we think about it. After all, nature is all created by God as are we, so it should be natural as well for us to make that connection. But when we find ourselves in an area where nature isn't so present or at least just doesn't appear so to the naked eye, such as in a land of skyscrapers and traffic jams, artificial noises and lights, it is easy to fall prey to the belief in the power of man by what man can do. We have to guard a little bit against that. Even then, however, if we open our hearts, we will realize that since we ourselves are also creations of His natural plan, that should keep up from losing our proper focus on God. No one but God could create a being made up so intricately or create a brain with such creative capability to show the ability of man. In it own way, the same applies to all living things with the specialized and unique gifts created to give them the ability to fight for survival.
So, where do we go from this point? Well, it's really quite simple. On the beach, on the farm, even in the busy and bustling city, we need to accept and believe that God is ever present and when we take the time to slow down for a moment, think about the wonders of life in general and how amazing it really is, just opening our heart allows us to have the closeness we need with Him anywhere. And the more we do it, the easier it gets. But while that is so, for me there is nothing still to this day to match that walk at sunrise and watching the glory of His light rising out of the sea and displacing the darkness with the wonders of light, the Light of the World. And because of that experience so often felt in earlier life, I can now even return to such a location by just letting my mind take me back. The picture becomes clear and it is just like I am right back there and my heart responds accordingly. So, you see, it's all about practice and maintaining the conversation with God repeatedly. Each of us needs to find that place that works for us and keep it in our hearts. It will do that same thing for anyone that it does for me and the result will be making it easier with those earthly issues we face every day. With God in our heart, we can deal with anything.
