Crime. Terror. Unemployment or Underemployment. Political Corruption. Loss of freedom. Social destruction. Terms such as these find their way into so many stories that we read today and for many of us they are indicative of what we see in the modern day world. And when they impact us personally as they so often do, it is easy to become despondent, maybe depressed, as we look at a future that appears bleak and hopeless for many. But it need not be that way.
The future for each of us is based upon our individual free will. Free will governs the choices that we make in life and all of those choices have consequences. But even more importantly, we need to evaluate those choices not according to man's law but God's law instead. Man's law is designed for this world and it's true that it impacts us directly for the time we inherit this earth. But man's law can be faulty and it is up to each of us to evaluate right and wrong from a much higher standard, from the standard set for us by God. This can create a quandary for us sometimes, but we have to evaluate all things by what God would have us do, for only by living for Him can our ultimate future be attained.
Our ultimate future and success is not measured by man's human standards, it's measured by God and the result of His evaluation and His judgment determines real success. That's why free will is so important, for it gives us the choice, it doesn't decide for us. And as the basis for all the decisions we make it determines whether or not we make good or bad decisions. Those decisions lead to our eternal future. Godly ones based upon our following Jesus, the One who died for us, lead to eternal salvation. Bad ones lead to eternal darkness unless we finally see the Light before our life is done.
So don't worry about your future in terms of the earthly realm. Break the chains of worry by living according to a higher standard, the Word of God and the teachings of His only Son and the weight of worry about the future will be taken from us for, when life is done, the future will be truly divine. But be patient, because we still have to make it through the maize of earthly life which often tries to alter our course. Yes, satan (I never capitalize evil) is alive and well and representative of the dark side of free will. Don't fall for his attempts to lead you down his path, stay strong with God instead and your rewards will be heavenly.
We'll talk about this more on this weekend's Sunday Morning Coming Down. Here's the link:
