In the case of a disaster such as Covid-19, or a hurricane or some other horrific impact on our lives, God doesn't create them, He just allows the nature that He created to produce them. He does, however, have the power to stop them but on the earth that He created for us and for which He gave the responsibility to manage them, He often leaves it up to us with our dominion over earth to deal with them. He gave us the gift of life, a life endowed with a brain and great thinking power, and he lets us figure our what we should or shouldn't do with our own free will. But He also has allowed Satan to have free reign on the earth for now, for having Evil around near to Good makes us respond either with the proper use of our free will or by not exercising it properly and accepting the false words of the evil one. That, of course, can make for tragedy, yet we have many tools in our human arsenal to combat that and when we combine them with the Power of God in our lives, it becomes awesome. Why? Because that's what He expects of us but we have to want to do that on our own using our free will. When we open our eyes to His truths, it really makes a lot of sense. It does, however, require our individual commitment of faith in God which is an individual action. And when that faithn it is combined with others who also believe, it makes the power unbeatable.
To blame God for our problems is just a crutch that we can hide behind, but once we open our eyes the truth is ready to behold. And while disasters will always be a part of the human existence in an imperfect world, with faith they can always be managed. And this brings me to the point that God truly loves us. He gave us life, a beautiful world and abundant gifts that we should not take for granted. Since we were created in His image, it makes sense that He wants us to love Him and live the way He wants us to, helping others, loving our fellow man, working hard but also having time for fun. The varieties and the challenges we face are what make it real and, as the ultimate bonus, when we live for Him when this life is done, we never die but live on in a place so grand that we can't even imagine it. It's a place where we will have no pain or suffering for eternity.
And this brings me to my last point which is that we need to understand just how wondrous the gifts of love that God has given us are and appreciate that love. And on this Palm Sunday, we must realize that the events that began on this day so many years ago led to the culmination of why, as part of His love, He sent our Lord and Jesus to us on earth in the first place. After entering Jerusalem in triumph to cheers, in only a few short days He would be tried and convicted and put to death in a truly horrific way for following through with His Father's commitment as the sacrifice to allow us to be forgiven for who we are. Like it or not, we are mortal sinners. When Jesus Christ died on the Cross on Good Friday afternoon, as he sighed with His last breath we were granted forgiveness. And the only thing we have to do to accept it is to believe in Him by faith and follow His way. Now that's no disaster and it is the ultimate in love. We must remember that as we live the rest of our days. It will make life so much more peaceful and joyous. Enjoy this Holy Week, everyone.
