Now any boy or girl who was a child in the 1950s or '60s knows this song well. It was sung to the puppet, Pinocchio, by Jiminy Cricket in the animated film by Walt Disney adapted from the Adventures of Pinocchio, a world famous fairy tale by Italian author Carlo Collodi. Wishing upon a star is something that children have done for generations following that epic show and even adults can be heard humming the tune at times and likely even making the wish that they want to come true.
Now there's nothing wrong with enjoying a fairy tale and doing a little day dreaming about that wish you would want to come true, but in real life if you put your faith in a wish made upon a star or any other worldly creation, it is doomed to failure. Wishing for things to happen never results in them happening. It's kind of like putting your faith in idols and then wondering why your wishes aren't answered.
No, the only way to make things happen that lead to ultimate happiness is by believing in the Lord by faith. God is the answer since he is the Creator and that includes all of the stars above us which we might make a wish upon. It's just another beautiful Creation by God to make life beautiful. So, when we realize and look at things that way, our wishes always come true. But it's not easy. It means commitment, follow-through and trusting in Him by faith. And faith is something that is never scientifically proven, yet there is ample evidence to convince us of it's truth. But it requires an open heart.
If we are ultimate successful with our belief through faith, what is that wonderful thing that will come true? Why, it's eternity, eternal life with God and His Son the Savior in heaven above. It will come true for anyone who truly believes in Him by faith and accepts His offer of forgiveness and then commits life to living for Him. If we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit residing within us and allow Him to put us in touch with the Savior, Jesus Christ, our mediator before God and we truly believe, then we don't have to wish upon a star for anything. We will have received it and be joyous in it not just for the rest of our lives on earth, but forever.
Could anything be grander than that? Absolutely not.
Dear Lord, We thank you for your love, grace and the gift of freedom from sin which the death of your Son on the Cross has given us. Help us to accept His offer and follow Him forever, for we will then live for eternity with you. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
