The question: Where's the Line to See Jesus?, based on that beautiful song by Becky Kelley, has been a principal basis for our theme and all during the preliminary holiday planning and festivities I have wondered why so much emphasis today is placed on secular things. Why do so many spend hours standing in line for Santa and for special sales, yet less and less is involved with lining our hearts up to see Jesus?
Finally my question was answered on Christmas Eve, for attending the beautiful country church that I call my spiritual home, looking at the large crowd filing in, the green and read colors and the Christmas tree with white lights, poinsettias and the Advent wreath, and the lighted picture of Jesus behind the pulpit brought things to light. On this beautiful night we were all "lined up to see Jesus", not just entering the church or waiting for communion, but also as we filed out into the dark evening at its conclusion to a waiting full moon, covered with mist and surrounded by a giant ring as if it was shining down directly on our little church.
This weekend's Sunday Morning Coming Down devotional is devoted to a story of this wonder and it will be the culmination of my Christmas programming for this year. I hope you will tune in; it's now available on demand. Here's the link:
