- I Love to Tell the Story, words by Katherine Hankey (ca. 1868)
Those of us raised in the Christian faith have always tried to envision the beauty and glory of heaven above, living in love, peace and tranquility with the Prince of Peace and the Father for eternity. After all, that's the reward for a life devoted to Him and putting Him first even though we will falter and fall for sin at times since try as we do we are still sinful mortals.
God understands that and because of the death of His Son for us on the Cross those many years ago, we are offered forgiveness through His grace. And with the commitment that we are afforded through Him we then get back on track and try to live the way He wants us to live. And yes, at times we will suffer while we'll also have good times as well, but the entire point of our life on this earth is to grow in stature and wisdom and fulfill His wish for for us, eventually living with Him if we continue our belief through our living example for Him until death frees us from a sinful world.
Each of us surely has a picture of what heaven will be like. Some of us see wide open green spaces and natural beauty, others see the City of God with all the riches and brightness of a special city and others might picture a kingdom floating on clouds of pure white. In all cases, the frailty and pain of the human body will be eliminated, for the dimensions of space and limitations of the body are given up to the spiritual realm, eliminating all worries. And God will have a job for us, but it will be fully doable without the limits placed upon us in this world.
But whatever we dream, heaven will be so much greater. The glory of those unseen things will be shown only when we reach the heavenly realm and to do so we must believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This belief can only be based on faith. While there is plenty of evidence to support that belief if we open our hearts, it requires faith, not earthly science, to see it fully. And that's why we have the Holy Spirit within us. He will lead us to the promised land if only we seek Him out. We must open our hearts and let Him guide us to the Savior for it will lead us to a glorious and permanent future.
Dear Lord, Thank you for sending your Son, our Savior, to provide us the means for redemption. And thank you also for the Holy Spirit which Jesus sent to guide us after His Ascension following death on the Cross. Help us to believe in Him through faith, live as He taught, and prepare for the wonders that will be found in the heretofore unseen glories in heaven above. We ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
