- Ecclesiastes 3:1
Yesterday we finally got the first real break from the summer, a beautiful day with high in the mid-70s. And last night we approached a record low with temperature in the 40s. The change of seasons here in North Florida is always welcome after the long summer. But in the event that we have a cold winter and sometimes we do in this part of the Sunshine State, the warmth of spring will be welcome as we'll look forward to the renewal of all natural things living: the fresh green grass, new leaves and budding flowers and plants. The cycle of life is seen through the seasons in rebirth (spring), the prime of life (summer), aging (fall) and finally death (winter). Each has its place in teaching us and providing us with the wisdom of experience and each cannot be avoided while here on earth.
But whatever the season, we all must marvel at the way God planned out our world. From the changing seasons with new growth, then greenery and flowers, the beautiful turning of the leaves and even the starkness of a cold winter day, his work is amazing. The earth and planets rotating around the sun, giving light and darkness and warmth and cold, all synchronized in orderly fashion are truly astounding. And of course the mysteries of life and the way he formed the different living things with such unique features, complexity and perfect functionality are truly magnificent, each in its own way.
So now that the weather is cooler, take a hike out in nature and see the splendors and the wonders that we take so much for granted. We think we are so smart, but compared to the almighty power of our Omnipotent God, we are just tiny little specks in his plan. But each of us has a place and a purpose in it. It's up to us to approach Him and talk with Him in prayer, seeking His guidance in the part we have to play in His world, for we won't be here long. So let's make the most of it. And use it to inherit the Kingdom of God when we are done.
Dear Lord, We thank you for the gift of life and the wonderful world you have given us to enjoy. Help us to use our time here wisely and to use it to grow through the seasonal stages of our life in wisdom and stature so that we might inherit a place with you when all is said and done. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Have a blessed Lord's Day and God bless.
