Everyone loves being a winner, for victory is always so sweet. It means you have overcome the obstacles and have defeated your enemy which, in the broadest since, can be anyone or anything which stood in your way. Victory can come in many forms depending on what you consider important to you. For the quarterback of a professional football team it can be winning the Super Bowl, or for the leader of the college squad it is winning the national championship. For the driven businessman or woman, it is attaining the highest possible success by becoming the head of a major corporation. For a mother who has devoted her life to her family, it's making that family happy and seeing her children grow into productive and good citizens themselves with she and her husband enjoying the visits from beautiful grandchildren as they get older. While the sea captain sees it as weathering the storms of life on the sea and successfully plying his trade without accident or disaster on the water. As this shows, victory can take many forms and all of them are admirable and desirable if carried out in an honorable way. But all of these victories put together can't come close to the greatest victory in life, for when life is done for that victor, their accomplishments are reduced to mere memories by those who knew them and they lose their value as time goes on. So, what is the greatest victory of all and how is it attained?
Well, while I will admit that victories in a variety of battles in life are rewarding, they can't last and when we talk about the fact that sooner or later we all have to die, there is only one victory that will really matter. That victory is the victory over sin, for the victory over sin provides the victory of life everlasting over death. Now many might say very openly that they really aren't concerned about sin, for in today's world many just see right and wrong as being relative. They convince themselves that fun, money, power, sexual gratification, and you name it are what matters to them in life. Eat, drink and by merry like the Romans, for tomorrow they die. But what if we, indeed, we can live forever, and not just that, live with a new and improved body where there is no pain, no suffering and the environment itself is so grand that we can't even imagine it? Well, by believing in our Lord and Savior by faith, and committing to follow Him and live as He would have us do, we accept His forgiveness of our sins which He died for and He will grant us His glory by His grace and love. That, my friends, exceed anything that is great by our human living standards and changes us forever. Now I can't prove that to you and no one else can either, that's why faith is needed. But when we truly open our hearts and earnestly talk and walk with Him, He will show us just how true it is. And that, my friends, is the greatest victory of them all and it's in your reach, if only you take the plunge. Take the plunge for Jesus and live in His waters of life forever.
