The Left and Right can't get along and therefore can no longer talk to one another. Hate has reared its ugly head in so many places, with violence a natural follow-on to that emotion. Meanwhile, politicians think the answer is to pass even more controlling laws when we have thousands of laws on the books which aren't enforced. The result is chaos and while we keep looking in all the wrong places for answers, the One who can always provide answers and sound guidance, God, is standing by waiting for our call. So on this Sunday in August, a day which is by its placement within the seasons likely to be one of the hottest of the year, how about joining with me in a prayer for a lowering of the temperature between differing groups of people in this great land. If we don't wake up and understand who really has the power, we can't survive as a nation and a people. Let's stop focusing on our selfish selves and turn to God, the one who has it in His power to give us Eternity and a life in the hereafter which we are not even capable of imagining.
Dear Lord, We thank you for all of the many blessings that we have been given by you. We have a land of bountiful wealth and beauty, a people who when they focus and work together under you can tackle nearly any task successfully and a homeland which is truly the greatest place on earth to live. Despite all of this, we fail to appreciate what we have and seem disinterested in truly working to make sure that we keep it.
Lord, help us to recognize our frailties and our sin-filled lives, to open our hearts to you for guidance and put an end to the hate and animosity which is tearing this land apart. To those that have caused great harm to others, there needs to be punishment, but for those who haven't we need to have forgiveness in our hearts, for anyone who commits to you and truly confesses their sins should be forgiven by all of us. After all, it's what Jesus did those many years ago for us through death on the Cross.
Finally, be with us in these trying times and bring us together for your good and the purpose for which you placed us on earth. And let's once again make America the shining place for the rest of the world to see and to try and replicate: a nation under God doing your work in our ongoing lives. We ask in Jesus' name, Amen.
I hope your weekend and your Lord's Day has been a good one and that you will be ready to go out in the secular world tomorrow and live as He intended. The example we set for others is one of the greatest messengers God has. Never forget that.
