God didn't make the change in how He presents himself to mankind based on a whim but based on the need that the gift of free will which he created for us necessitated it. Now free will is a wonderful thing and when we make the decision through our own thought and study to follow God and live for Him in our life, He is very pleased, for it means we are living in His image as he desires. But free will creates issues, for when we are given the choices and choose on our own, many of us make the wrong choices. Why? Because the Evil One can package himself in a very attractive manner and our natural inclination to sin can overwhelm us if we lose sight of God. Depending upon the weakness that we might have, Satan finds it and works on it until he finds what works. It could be a beautiful woman or a very handsome man, maybe it's gold or silver, or maybe it's a lust for power. Sometimes those things can be intertwined to make them even more attractive and if we allow our minds to stray into such territory, Satan can win every time.
These problems manifested themselves to start with in the Garden of Even when Eve tempted Adam with the apple and we know what happened. And despite the wonderful things that God did for us, man continually faltered. God's first attempt to eliminate that and turn His people in the right direction came with the Great Flood which covered the earth and only Noah and his family and the gathering of male and female animals to repopulate the earth survived. It worked for a while but then, due to the wrong pick of a free will choice, problems kept proliferating. Moses went up on the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments, telling his people to live for God in His image while he was gone. He returned to find a party of debauchery and the result was God having them roam around in the desert aimlessly for forty years, when the Promised Land was easily reachable. Moses didn't even make it to the goal before dying, missing his dream on earth due to the evil of his own people who he saved from the Egyptians.
Later there was King David, of course, chosen by God as his special child, who violated God's trust due to his lust for his best warrior's wife, Bathsheba and committing adultery while here husband was sent into a battle where he couldn't avoid death. These types of situations perpetuated until finally God decided He must come up with a solution, a way for his people to obtain forgiveness if they accepted the Lord. Jesus, His Son, part of Him sent for that purpose was the answer. He, of course, died horrifically at the request of those of His own faith, Judaism, who wanted His blood instead of following Him. Yet there were those who did believe and they witnessed His return from death when He arose and showed Himself for forty days before returning to heaven to be with His father. His departure not only was left with the promise of His return at a later unannounced time to rule the earth for one thousand years but also His promise of sending help for the weak and mortal man that we all are.
And so, Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to live within us, basically lying dormant until we called for His help and guidance, and for those who did and do so, He enters our opening heart and guides us on the pathway to that gift of Salvation and Eternal Life. All we have to do is keep our heart open with an active Holy Spirit as our Living Guidance Counselor and he keeps us in contact with Jesus Christ Our Savior who is our Mediator with the Father.
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. What an amazing interconnectedness of the Creator, the Savior and the Spirit within us and it all came about because a loving God wants us to love Him, live for Him and thereby gain our place at the table with Him and Jesus Christ when this life is done. It's the only way to Salvation and it's readily available to all who make the right decision with our free will. So, if you haven't made your commitment and decision, do so today while there is still time, for when Gabriel blows his horn and Jesus appears out of the clouds, it will be too late to make the most important decision in our lives. I hope everyone chooses the choice of life eternal instead of darkness. Please ponder the future carefully.
