At the same time, the "gloom and doomers" say people are going to die because of the problems and, of course, we've been hearing that for over eight years now. Well, some people will die, but then again most would probably die from whatever ails them anyway. And after watching our veterans healthcare program degrade itself through bumbling incompetence into disgrace, it should be no surprise as we learn that the more government gets into healthcare the more likely it will fail.
The government was never designed to be a business or medical management organization. In reality, it has morphed into an ever-growing massive bureaucracy that takes from one group to give to another, but only after taking out a big surcharge. If only we'd ever learn the truth, we'd realize that in most cases self-reliance is the best way although there are, of course, exceptions. But those exceptions should not be allowed to become the rule as is the case in so much of what goes on today.
And now the Congressional Budget Office throws its two cents into the fray, stating that the proposed change is even worse than the original, citing all kinds of data and figures to back up there claim. But remember, the claims they make are based upon the information they are given and it's based upon the faulty assumptions always made by the Congressional appropriators who are the source of the numbers. If the estimates of domestic product growth and the resulting expected largesse it provides to the bottom line are faulty, the numbers are always off target. One can't forget that in the original Obama plan, all of the big changes were pushed into the out years with costs determined by the front end and it finally caught up with them and that's where we find ourselves today.
If any of us in the private sector ran our businesses like the government does, with creative budgeting and guaranteed inflation kickers, not only would we be broke and out of business but we'd likely be in prison as well. And since government is the only entity in American that can take what they want from anyone with the force of law, the politicians just don't worry about the future. They just dump the problem on us and take control of more hard earned dollars.
Sorry to sound pessimistic, folks, but it's been this way since I was enmeshed in the Washington scene in my early adult years and it is not likely to change. To his credit, the President is trying but he's fighting a leviathan of greed and corruption of a good old insider network that is the result of Americans reelecting the same people over and over despite the harm they have created. But things can change if, and only if, we finally realize that absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Establishment, be it Democrat or Republican, has got to go. It must be replaced with logical, patriotic and dedicated citizens who don't want power and glory in the long term, they just want to make America work for all of us.
That's my dream and I'm sticking to it.
