Weinstein is a very powerful man in Hollywood, a giant in his industry who has the power to advance young women he chooses to a glamorous career in the movies. He knows it and, sadly, has used it to satisfy his sexual appetite at the expense of those very women. And while we know there are some who willingly will do anything to have a shot at the big time, there are many more woman who will not lower themselves to that level. They also know when they refused his advances it would make it very difficult for them to succeed in a career option that is tough enough under the best circumstances.
After stopping the publication of a story on this very subject way back in 2004 with the help of it, you guessed it, Hollywood itself, the New York Times decided recently to publish the story about Weinstein's proclivities. Why they chose to do it now, no one knows at this time, but it gives credence to all the stories about the casting couch and the goings on of unscrupulous and powerful moguls. Harvey Weinstein now finds himself at the top of the list and since the story came out, his brother Bob, co-founder of the Weinstein Company, and the company board fired Harvey. Four members of the all-male board also resigned and the company is looking at changing its name since the name is now a pariah.
The following are just a few of the names that have surfaced of young actresses who were harassed by Weinstein, a man who meets my definition of a real pig. They include Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino, Rosanna Arquette, Heather Graham and Filipina-Italian actress Ambra Gutierrez, who actually filed a complaint with police in 2015. These are by no means all of those who are beginning to come to the surface and most suffered the most when they were young, in their early twenties and trying to climb the ladder to stardom. Weinstein saw them as targets for his jaded lifestyle and just figured it would never come out due to the power he had in Hollywood.
Harvey has also been a lifelong supporter of the Democratic Party, a big contributor and fundraiser and one who liked to socialize with the political elite. The story coming out reveals that most of those same politicians knew what a "dirtbag" he was, but they really didn't care as long as his money kept flowing in and it wasn't out there for discussion among the general public. The Clintons, both Hillary and Bill, were two of his favorites and it is very telling that Hillary delayed the inevitable until just yesterday condemning his actions. Perhaps she stood by Harvey like she stood by her man until the heat became too severe.
And all of this really makes me wonder: Just who is conducting the supposed War on Women? Well, it certainly isn't the Republicans, but the party of Ted Kennedy (remember Chappaquiddick and the car in the creek), Bill Clinton (a serial womanizer and abuser of a White House intern), Hillary Clinton (Bill's "bimbo eruption" manager) and now big Democratic fundraiser Harvey certainly look much more suspect? The silence from most of the media to not any connection is deafening. Wow, what a surprise.
