They (the Republicans) say, in the words of Paul Ryan, that they do this to stop government by continuing resolutions which allows the President to decide what and where to spend without regard to Congress. The Republican Party says it will now get active in changing things proposed, not go along to get along, and use it as a basis to cut what is not needed.
And therein lies the problem, I just don't see the Republicans with the fortitude to do such things. They keep saying that if they just can get a majority in the House and Senate they can get things done. They'll fight to repeal Obamacare and protect Defense and stop the waste. But they've never done those things in past modern years, so why now? And aren't they often the first at the table to "fix" Obamacare when we all know this disaster can't be fixed? Haven't they used this same wimpy argument over and over again while they take a barrage of hits from the Dems? The same questions come up on every type of issue and the same result, inaction, generally results. And since Boehner and Company seem hell bent on opening the gates to illegal immigrants and providing a boat load of goodies to them, generally to the detriment of taxpaying American citizens who are hurting right now, I don't see how they are going to try and control anything that the Democrats propose. I am guessing it will be more of the same while the country sinks deeper in the mire that is the Washington establishment.
Having said that, let's see what happens. I'll hold my powder and watch but if somehow they win the Senate in 2014 while holding the House, I don't want to see a bunch of RINOs offer the fig leaf to Reid and the boys. And that's exactly what I fear they'll do. After being blasted and treated badly by the Democrats and just sitting idly by like cowards, the situation in America has gotten much, much worse and there is no end in sight. So man up, Republicans, and do the right thing for a change. The next time, and there will be one, I don't think that the silent majority will be so understanding.
So okay, Mr. Boehner, Mr. Ryan et al, we're watching and waiting. But we've already given you over twenty yards without requiring you to run a play, so get your game together and start delivering for the home team, the people who pay your salary. The next twenty yards won't be nearly so easy; we might even catch you from behind in the backfield. That's as much charity as I can give you clowns for one day. Spine up, put your helmets and game face on and move out.
