So does this all mean that the Presidential election of 2016 will be a "gimme" for the Republicans? No, sadly, it does not. Much will depend on what happens in this year's off year elections, particularly with regard to the Senate and then we'll have to see what the "loyal opposition" does with the results.
Of particular importance is the activity of the House of Representatives from now until after the 2016 elections. Will John Boehner and his team finally see the light and start standing up for the principles and values of the party's base voters or will he continue to blindly follow the wishes of K Street, Wall Street and even, to a surprising degree, the wishes of the President?
When the Tea Party and other Conservatives swept the Republicans to control of the House in 2010 most of us expected a fire in the belly and some fight. But Boehner, truly not a real Conservative, decided instead to go along and get along with the President and, as a result, has accomplished nothing. Obamacare is still in place, the disaster at Benghazi is still being covered up, the national debt is soaring further out of control and if those things aren't enough, Boehner has signaled that it will be full speed ahead for Amnesty, the only thing other than Obamacare that will truly finish off America. Additionally, he shuns those who afforded him the opportunity to hold the Speakership, surrounded himself with milquetoast yes men and women, and makes a bit of a fool of himself in public with his crying and inability to articulate a message.
Boehner has tied himself to the hip with the Rove and McConnell strategy of trying to destroy the Tea Party and those who generally support it. He is clearly a status quo power hungry guy who puts himself first, just like Mitch McConnell. And as for Karl Rove, well, he has made millions through his campaign apparatus despite a track record that is not too stellar. After all, two moderate nominees for President with two losses in a row and they are now pushing hard for another one along the lines of a Jeb Bush in 2016. I voted for Jeb Bush twice for Governor of Florida but Jeb Bush is no longer the same principled Conservative; he is now clearly in the camp of Progressivism with his no holds barred support of Amnesty and Common Core, the final step in federal takeover of our schools.
So what are Conservatives to do and how do we send them a message that they can't miss? Well, for starters it's quite simple. Vote in the Republican primaries and vote for the Conservative. Clear the dead wood of too many years in Washington from office and replace it with true Conservatives, men and women who want to return the power of government to you rather than hang on to it themselves. Rove and the boys will be spending lots of money trying to convince you that the Establishment candidates, mostly incumbents, are really Conservative and effective. Don't believe them, look at their track records and look at the country today and it will be obvious to you that this is a falsehood.
Other things you can do in the short term is to demand an end to the push for Amnesty, reject Common Core for your kids, and keep the pressure on about defunding or terminating Obamacare and ending the scourge of scandals such as IRSgate, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the NSA, and more. Blitz the Congressional offices demanding that they do their job and not cede any more power to a President who wants to control us all. Constant pressure from large numbers of people is the only thing that gets the attention of Congress.
Finally, stop giving money directly to the Republican Party or any party for that matter. Tell them you will not do so since they don't support your views. Why would you want to give money to an organization which has been such a failure in living up to its promises? Instead, give money directly to those candidates that you have evaluated carefully and trust. Be skeptical of all incumbents and demand that they prove why you should support them. There are some that are good but many are not. Use the old Reagan strategy of trust but verify.
This isn't easy, folks, and it takes time and effort, but isn't it worth it to make sure that the people you support and vote for share your principles and ideals? That's what it is all about and the lack of it is what has gotten America into so much trouble.
We can do this but it is a long road. Let's all get to work for Freedom and together, we can bring it back home.
