What Rand is talking about is the new book by Peter Schweitzer, "Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich." This is a book that is feared by Democrats in the early election cycle because it details how Hillary used her State Department position to gain cash for special favors. And while some might scoff about this, even the New York Times says his story is masterfully documented. If the left wing Times validates his efforts, Schweitzer must be on to something.
The book will be on the market on May 5th, the date of its unveiling by the publisher, Harper Collins. Word came out today that Senator Paul is one of two Republicans in the Senate who has been briefed on the contents, so apparently he has reason to believe that Hillary might be in trouble.
I don't think we should be surprised by this as both of the Clintons have always been shameless when it comes to hawking for money. They didn't amass a fortune of over one hundred million dollars by being shy about taking advantage of opportunities like giving speeches for two hundred thousand dollars a piece, but using a high government position to directly benefit your finances is a much more serious matter. I would imagine there is something in the Federal Register that precludes such action, but time will tell.
And this brings up another question if the story is accurate. With a lack of bench strength, who would the Democrats run in Hillary's place? Would it be Elizabeth Warren, the "Pocahontas" wannabe or Martin O'Malley, the former Maryland Governor who practically bankrupted the Land of the Blackeyed Susan? Stay tuned and we'll see where this goes.
