As the week goes by, however, I sometimes find myself feeling worried and fearful about what I see going on around me. I guess it's the constant realism of the world we have, not the world I'd like to see, that frankly gets me down. And it's at times like this that I need a boost from above.
Scripture and prayer help me immensely, but sometimes I am afforded a natural boost to get me back on track and take away my worries and fears. It is found naturally in one of the key things we have through which we can see the power and glory of our Almighty Father. It is found in our rapidly changing weather and the fury it sometimes brings.
Yesterday gave witness to this power. The day dawned hot and sunny, a typical late summer day in Florida. I worked up a good sweat doing my farm chores and as I wrapped up my work in late afternoon I could see a dark haze forming to the north. Over the next half hour or so I began to hear thunder and the clouds just rapidly rolled in. A strong, late afternoon thunderstorm would soon strike.
And strike it did. As the leading clouds rolled in, strong gusty winds whipped the trees and loud thunder made it clear that dangerous cloud to ground lightning was ever present. We even had numerous flickers but thankfully power never went out. A few moments later rain began in torrents and it was so heavy that I couldn't even see the barn, a mere thirty yards from my kitchen windows. In less than an hour we had received nearly three inches of rain and large temporary pools formed in low portions of the pasture.
Then, just as suddenly as it began, the rain stopped. Within the hour the late afternoon sun was peeking through the clouds and by dark the stars were brightly shining. And this morning, the dawn arrived with a beautiful sunrise and the sky is crystal clear.
As I thought back about my earlier worries and fears I felt ashamed, for in my heart I know that my Christ is always there for me and I need not fear anything. I hope each of you will take the time in your daily lives to notice the many ways He shows himself. It will help you through those occasional bad days.
Thank you for always being there for me and for providing the counsel and encouragement that I need in this troubled world. And while I know in my heart that you are there, help me to overcome the worries and fears that I sometimes allow to enter my mind for I know that Satan is always trying to find a weakness that he can exploit.
And thanks for the wonders of nature and the beauty of the earth, the sunshine, the moonlight, nourishing rain and even the powerful yet also beautiful lightning and the storms which send me a signal that Thy power can overcome anything. Help others to see these same signs and appreciate them for what they mean for they give me strength and determination to always stand with Thee.
Bless our nation, Oh Lord, and help us to devote our energies to return her to the God-fearing standard that we are afraid has been lost. Send the Holy Spirit into the souls of our leaders so that they may replace politics with Thy love in all that they do.
Be with us and and keep us as we continue to strive for the ultimate gift, the gift of life which was given us by The Son, Jesus Christ, through death on the Cross for us.
We ask in His name, Amen.
Don't forget to worship Him on the Sabbath Day and always put him foremost in your life for He is our salvation. Enjoy the weekend.
