I remember the Vietnam conflict and how demoralizing it was returning to the United States where so many Americans acted like the men and women in uniform who had completed their assignment were common criminals. It was a very bad time for many military personnel then but I think today it is even worse. More and more of our finest are sent into horrific situations where their leaders have no intention of winning and now we even see soldiers sent into disease infected foreign lands and assigned missions that clearly don't belong to them. They are in danger, they are alone and I fear that many will either be needlessly killed while the are performing the questionable tasks assigned or returned home with the incurable virus, Ebola, which is also being readily allowed access here.
I don't know why a government would act in such a way to our finest while we open our doors widely knowing full well that we have no capacity to accomplish anything but increase poverty, sickness and add to political corruption. But I do know this. Only by turning this nation back to God and asking for His guidance and grace can we here at home and our men and women in uniform serving in places throughout the world be truly safe, secure and at peace knowing that they have the Light of the Lord shining down on them.
Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for just being here for us and we pray that you will look over us during this current time of confusion, chaos and tribulation. Help us to gain strength through you to deal with whatever you have planned for us, ever knowing that only by following your Spirit and accepting your grace can we survive the current storm. And help us to have the courage to live as you would have us do with love and compassion in our hearts. And for those who are far from home and under great danger and stress, be with them and also with their loved ones from whom they are so far removed, giving them the fortitude to complete their tasks and return safely home again when the job is done. We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who died so that we might live. Amen.
