We Americans are a trusting lot and we like to believe that our leaders and the "experts" are providing sound advice and guidance, but I think we all finally realize that something today is just not adding up and for this reason I selected Mark to join me to discuss the American Economy as it is today.
We hear the news, the boasting about a recovering economy and how the stock market is booming and the employment numbers are improving, yet our eyes belie what we are told. Now maybe if you live in boom town Washington (where the government spends enormously on the federal bureaucratic behemoth) or in the "Big Apple", where all the news programs are generated from, perhaps you are booming. But out here in "flyover country", where Americans are more likely to see kids finishing school and unable to find a good, permanent job, or where able bodied and hard working adults are laid off, the picture is a little bit different. Things are what they seem in the real world and they look rather precarious out here.
No, the economy is not in great shape and we all need to realize that each of us must take steps to weather the storm that is around us. Self-reliance, initiative, and making good financial decisions takes willpower and it isn't always easy. But the message sent yesterday was to take care of the "needs" and put the "wants" away for another day. America can come back, but it is going to take all of us to be careful and use our brainpower to help it do so. Cut spending, pay off debts and identify opportunities that you might have that you've never considered before. You'll be surprised of what you are capable of accomplishing when you focus.
And remember these words from Mark yesterday: "When your neighbor is out of work, it's a recession, but when you are out of work its' a depression."

I hope it will wake you up to the future and the challenges ahead. They will be daunting, but not impossible, and if we use the American Spirit that dwells within each of us, we can turn this country around. But we can't turn it around by adding debt to be paid by our grandchildren and living beyond our means. That just never works.
Let's try something different as a country: living within our means, limiting government to those things God intended it for and putting our nation's security on the front burner again. We face many threats in addition to the economic monster and the sooner we tackle them head on the sooner America will rise again. Let's do this thing.
God bless you and God bless America.
