In this regard, I am excited to find out that one of my all time favorite Christian leaders and evangelists, Billy Graham, will be presenting his final major sermon on November 7th, the finale in a series of sermons under his My Hope with Billy Graham program. Why November 7th? Well, on that day Mr. Graham will be celebrating his 95th birthday; this wonderful and good man will be 95 years old and is still going strong. Mr. Graham does, however, realize the limitations on the human body and he has decided that this is a good time to finish his active ministry. What a great inspiration for all of us.
The exciting program scheduled for November 7th will include life-changing testimonials from those who have found Christ as well as a passionate new message from Mr. Graham. It will be entitled "The Cross" and it will be available on cable and many local TV stations, by DVD and even streaming internet. The idea is to make it available for as many people as possible, especially for those who have not accepted Jesus Christ. Remember, friends, it is never too late to accept your Savior and be saved.
The Billy Graham Evangelism Association hopes the program will be used by believers to introduce neighbors and friends to the joys of life with Jesus Christ. It is a perfect venue to invite friends to your home, possibly for a neighborly meal, watch the video, share its message and joys, and ask people to follow Christ. This isn't a sales pitch, it's an informational and inspirational way to clearly explain what you believe and why to those who are missing out on salvation.
America has never needed this more than today. Christianity is under persecution, favoritism never before witnessed is being used by our government in treatment of differing groups of citizens, and general morality and basic natural laws of biological behavior are under attack. Despite this, however, we must still love each of our fellow men while at the same time not accepting evil behavior. It is a tall order to fill but it is what God expects of us and no one is better at spreading the message than Mr. Graham.
He even talks about a survey of the average neighborhood and the results are quite shocking. Out of an average one hundred neighbors, seven (7) suffer from depression, fourteen (14) suffer from fear and anxiety, seven (7) are abusers of drugs and alcohol, three (3) are suffering from the death of a loved one, and eight (8) have lost a job and wonder how they will economically survive. And despite these dismal results, sixty (60) have not been born again. So despite Jesus' suffering and horrific death, something which He could have avoided had He so chosen, the clear majority of Americans have either not fully committed to Him or they just haven't been given the Word. And remember, the majority of our citizens claim to be Christians.
And that's where we come in, for our Lord and Savior expects us to live our life for Him by putting Him first. Spreading the word is one of the principal requirements of that charge.
I hope each of you will make plans to participate in giving Billy a great birthday present by participating and in so doing do something eternally valuable for you as well as your friends and neighbors. Be a modern day Disciple of Christ.
