- From the hymn, In the Garden
I remember as a young boy at church hearing the minister tell us that we needed to take time to have a personal relationship with Jesus, by finding a special place where we could talk one-on-one with Him. And I remember asking my mother how to do that. She would just say that anywhere where you are alone with your thoughts is a good place for that, but it really didn't ring a bell with me why that was so important.
As I grew older, it finally came to me that any place on earth where I experienced a feeling of awe by the splendor of nature around me was the perfect place for spending that special time. After all, the beauty of this earth is a gift from God and it offers many such opportunities. Maybe it can be, like the hymn said, in a beautiful garden just like Gethsemane where Jesus took time before His arrest to talk with His Father above and ask for His help in facing His upcoming ordeal. Or perhaps when strolling down a wooded lane in the forest, listening to the sounds of nature all around you. Or even while walking along a lonely beach on a rough ocean day, watching God's power in the waves churning up the surf.
The point is, folks, it can be anywhere, anywhere that you open your heart to the Holy Spirit and let Him connect you with the Son of God and through our Savior with God the Father. The Holy Trinity, or God in Three Persons, is always there for us, but He expects us to come to Him to commune. And the beauty of it is, He's available and ready for us at any time.
As I get older and now residing in a peaceful rural area, I find the early morning when the sky is lightening and the sun begins its slow rise to be a wonderful time to commune with Him. It is quiet and serene and the world is fresh, awaiting the start of a new day. And there is no better way to start a new day than to talk with the Lord. It helps me focus, put my day in order and then get off to a good start, knowing that He is always there with me wherever I go and whatever I do. So just ponder this message and look around you for the right place and opportunity. Your helping hand awaits.
God bless and have a wonderful day.
