I love my home state but am completely befuddled in seeing the great conservative traditions of Virginia fall, one by one, to the lunacy of the Left. The current Governor, Terry McAuliffe, is mired in dirt up to his ears as he tries to destroy the rule of law in the Commonwealth and then there's Tim Kaine, the former Richmond Mayor, who frankly made a fool of himself as a Senator from the Commonwealth running for Vice President under Hillary Clinton. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since with the huge influx of people into Northern Virginia, working and feeding off the federal trough, the Left has a huge voter advantage which counterbalances the Conservative traditions of the rural and more southern parts of the state. The old traditional pay as you go state government philosophy has been overtaken by pay-to-play and with it the corruption and waste has grown by leaps and bounds as well.
But yesterday, some hope entered the realm of possibility in the Virginia political world with the word coming out that radio and television personality and host Laura Ingraham is considering a run in 2018 against the clueless Kaine. Ingraham is smart, attractive and a great spokesperson for American values and she has fought her own personal battles with great courage. She grew up in a modest family in Connecticut and learned about hard work and the value of a dollar through many jobs held as a youngster.
She is a Dartmouth graduate and a University of Virginia-trained lawyer who was a speechwriter in the latter part of the Reagan Administration and also clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. She fought and won a personal battle with cancer and has made a personal mission of saving children from poverty and despair by adopting several herself. She would be a worthy and extremely formidable candidate and I doubt if Kaine would look forward eagerly to a debate with Ingraham, who would be hard hitting, accurate and unrelenting in such an event.
We'd certainly miss her on the airwaves, but it would be a great pick-up of a seat for the Commonwealth and somehow I think it would generate a muffled cheer from the ground up on old Monticello Mountain. After all, Big Tom has been rolling over in his grave a lot lately and he'd certainly be pleased to see his beloved Virginia represented by a Senator who believed in his beliefs while also attaining a law degree from his university.
Here's hoping that Laura Ingraham will take the plunge and run for United States Senator from the Old Dominion in 2018. It would be another positive event to help keep the Light of Liberty alive in America.
