Walking to my car in the parking lot, a very spry older gentleman walked up to me and said, "I like your bumper sticker." It's basically one of those patriotic stickers mentioning the country and the flag.
I smiled and looked at this wonderful fellow, a World War II vet, and told him, "Sir, I worry about the course my country is taking and that's why I have the sticker."
He looked me in the eye and said, "You, know, I just turned 93 years old and this is the first time in my life I have ever worried about my country and I don't think things are going to turn out very well. I just want the government to leave me alone."
He was on a small outing with his daughter who was about my age and we just talked a little politics and military memories and then we both went our separate ways. I would have never guessed he was 93. Oh, I could tell he had a little arthritis and maybe his outward stature was somewhat reduced, but he was spry, he was alert and, most of all, he was still concerned about his country.
As I drove off I thought to myself, What in the world has America allowed to happen in the last 5 years? I know that some of our problems were already serious, not just from Bush but also from Clinton and before, but in the last 5 years our downward spiral has been on steroids. It's as if we just decided to let those who despise America do as they please and we don't care.
And why do I say they despise America? If the actions being taken, many by Executive Order alone, can in no way be seen as keeping the truth and spirit of America alive then, my friends, they are killing her.
Well, using the description applied by Mr. Obama's favorite preacher, "The chickens have come home to roost", indeed they are destroying our country. And this brings to mind the following questions that each of us must answer:
Do we want our children to be left with a country with no heart, no morality and no future? Have we lost our love of liberty and are we willing to give it all up to tyranny? That in a nutshell is where we find ourselves today.
I want to thank that wonderful older gentleman for putting it so clear in so few words. We're near the point of no return, but there might still be time to save the greatest country on earth. Think about it and decide what you want to do, where you want to end up and which side you are on before it's too late.
Dear Lord, Help us, Oh Father, to look at ourselves and our lives and face the reality of what we have allowed to happen. Give us strength, spirit and Thy abundant love and guidance to do what is necessary to right the Ship of America and steer her on a course back toward Thee.
And help those who want to transform her into something frightening and despotic to see the errors of their ways. Infect their souls with Thy love and spirit that they might turn their own hearts around. Give them a yearning for freedom, liberty and love for Thee, not a lust for greed, power and evil. For without Thee in our hearts, none of us will have anything.
Bless and keep us, Lord, with Thee in our hearts and souls always. We ask in His name, Amen.
