I must confess that whenever we have an extended period of constant rain I think of Noah and his family and the animals in the ark. At some point they must have questioned God, but then they prayed and were reassured and, as promised, eventually the rains stopped and the land reappeared. That story from Genesis 6 is a good one to help us reinforce our faith. But remember, it's faith because we have to accept it without proof. That is part of the beauty of free will; a good decision is well worth it.
And why can't our leaders in government trust us, like God, to make our own decisions about life. The "nanny state" concept is contrary to all natural law, for if you don't have responsibility for yourself, then you will never appreciate anything you are given. It's kind of like the boy given a car for his birthday when he is young and he ends up wrecking it within weeks. Easy come, easy go.
What special qualifications do our politicians have to make decisions for us? After all, they have been spending other people's money for generations and they can never stay within a budget. They just keep spending and spending and, when they run out of money, they just keep raising taxes. Now that we're nearly $17 trillion in debt, not counting all of our unfunded additional liabilities, there appears to be no way out. How's that working out for you?
We as a nation need to change our ways and we as the people of this country need to develop some discipline in our lives. The phony money is quickly running out and when it is gone, there is no more. There will be nowhere else to turn but to your own initiative and brainpower and your God.
Maybe this is just God's way of saying that it is time we learned what our responsibilities are. If so, I suggest that each of us get wise quickly and listen to the winds of time. We can make this easier on ourselves or much more difficult. The choice is ours.
Dear Lord: Help we Americans to face the facts of life and change our way of living to reflect reality. We know that there is no free lunch, yet we continue to ask for it. We also know that something isn't quite right, that our rights and liberties are gradually being taken away. Help us to stand up and peacefully fight for those things.
We know in our hearts that many of the things ongoing and supported by our government are wrong. Man was not meant to be a slave, nor was he meant to follow edicts that defy logic; that's why Thou hast given us a brain. Help us to reinvigorate ourselves with Thy help to take charge of our lives.
Bless our men and women in uniform who are under siege both from a ruthless enemy as well as from many within our government who would like to eliminate their ability to practice their Christian faith. Replace political correctness with truth. They are not trying to proselytize; they only want to live their lives in Christ and spread the word by their example. Protect them and keep them safe.
And finally, Lord, I have one special prayer for today. Please be with the brave souls who will be testifying before Congress this week about the Benghazi murders. Guide them and protect them so that they might do their duty to which they are bound by telling the truth. They are truly heroes to do so.
We love Thee, Lord, and help us to never forget Thy will in all that we do. Amen.
Have a blessed Sunday and enjoy your "Day of Rest". God bless you all.
