When the Germans met the British, French and Italians in September 1938 in Munich, the Reich agreed that, in exchange for being able to annex the western Czechoslovakian area known as the Sudetenland, Germany would commit to no further efforts to forcibly take land. On his return to Britain bearing the good news, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain delivered his speech declaring peace of our time. The public back in Britain loved it, the whole world loved it, wanting to believe that dealing with a tyrant like Hitler was as simple as just getting his signature on a written document. And even though there were many worrisome signs that all wasn't well, the world just ignored them. And by August of 1939, evidence was becoming abundant as the Germans were seen massing large troop units for something in the future. But then, on September 1, 1939, Europe became fully aware of the truth as the formidable Bundeswehr crossed into Poland, the sea lanes were closed and bombs rained down on their target with reckless abandon. The Poles tried to fight proudly, but soldiers on horseback are no match for tanks and heavy artillery and they were slaughtered.
And so, as you read this, what bearing does it have on you and me eighty one years later? Well, I believe that is obvious if we just open our eyes. The United States, the richest nation on earth and the place where so many yearn to come and live free, is also a huge target for tyranny, and today even tyranny from within. We need to pay attention to history and what it teaches us and vow to never allow it to repeat itself. We can even learn through history how tyranny from within can be worse than the greatest external enemy by looking at good examples. In Russia, Stalin allowed millions of his subjects to starve. China has a long history of the same, and if you think it cannot happen here, just look at the violence and suffering created by the likes of Antifa and yes, even Black Lives Matter which are tied at the hip with political organizations in this nation for a reason. Just follow the links to how these violent groups seek contributions and the relationship becomes apparent. These are people who don't want us to be free and independent. No, they want us to be ruled by them like an iron fist, just like what happened to the Poles and so much of Europe those many days past. So, learn from it, decide how to deal with it and ask the Almighty to help us keep America free. May the lessons learned from events like the Battle of Poland, not much of a battle but a surrender, be ever remembered to remind us what we must avoid here. And may God bless both you and these United States of America.
