Most of us who disapprove have largely just decided that it's the way things are and there's not much we can do about it. We watch people being thrown out of their homes due to eminent domain to allow for huge projects. We know we have some of our own hunger problems in our own country yet we watch as thousand upon thousands of illegals are brought in, given resources that should be used for our own citizens instead while we shake our heads. We accept beautiful places that once were serene and pure being turned into cities in the swamps and on the ocean and just slink back with only our memories. There is so much more we can add, but I think we need instead to focus on the true root of the problem. It's as clear to me as this keyboard is right now, but I didn't always pay attention. Now I do because of something that is right inside me I finally allowed to impact me and the way I look at life and how we live it. And so it is that you might ask, "What is it and how do we find it?"
Simply put, it is the Holy Spirit, the third person of God who Jesus sent to us after the Ascension back to heaven. He did so since he knew that we humans were weak sinners who always needed God's guidance. The Holy Spirit is that part of God which lives within us, waiting for the opportunity to guide us through life in a sinful world if only we allow Him. And all we have to do is open our hearts and he will fill us with God's love and grace and show us the way to discern things. We must realize that God, the Father above created us in His image and desires for us to live our lives His way. To do that, we need Him up close and personal and the Holy Spirit is that portion of Him that can get us straightened out. Only with His help can we really reach the Son who died for us and who serves as our Mediator with the Father. It's not a difficult concept if you consider the world and environment that God created for us. But it is a process in which we can truly falter if we open ourselves instead to the evil one who is always waiting for a weak link in our armor.
Okay, but I realize many might then ask how that solves the problem posed in the title of this blog and all I can do is say that when you are open to and receive the Spirit, it changes the way you look at things and it activates you to do things differently. For you see, our society in America was founded on a belief in Almighty Providence or God and for generations it was the rule in our great land. But today, with the rise of secularism and all of the false gods such as ideological dogma, money and greed, quick sexual gratification, the lust for power and other things which we put in place of God, we as a society have turned to a dangerous course of destruction. And when we rely on man to solve all of those problems, we will never find the answer because man is subject to manipulation by all of those false gods. If we don't keep the Spirit alive and try to spread it to others, there is no hope.
Maybe a good way to visualize it is using the old water in the glass method. Consider us today as living in a land that had a glass that was once full to the brim, but something has happened and it has sprung a leak and no matter how much more water we add it continues to drop. It is now approaching empty and when it is empty it dies. But what if by opening our heart, the leak stops and we then continue to add water to the glass? Well, it will fill up and then overflow, then we are exactly where we want to be. As a representation of the Holy Spirit, when the water overflows it means we have all of the Spirit we need and we have more to spread around to others. As it spreads, more glasses are needed and the problems are on the road to being solved just by the volume of people who are brimming over.
So, fill yourself with the Holy Spirit and then spread the overflow wherever you go. With it will come discernment and the ability to understand all the things happening that we try to ignore and instead do something to change them for the good. What we've destroyed we can rebuild, but only with God in all three persons. Think about it and see. I truly believe it's our only way to live and our only hope for the remainder of life on earth. But then, if we are filled and overflowing with the Spirit, we will have the joy of filling the place which is set for us, we believers, with God in heaven above.
