I tend to agree. As with most large government programs, once they are enacted it is hard to get rid of them. Oh, they tweak things around the edges but the program remains in place, and with it comes a large, bureaucratic and user-unfriendly system which wastes money, provides less than quality service and leaves us all unsatisfied. And for what? So the liberals can say that they have now taken hold of nearly 20% of our economy, gaining more and more control over your personal life and health. It is a dream come true for them after more than fifty years of pushing for it, and the future likely holds more and more control with rationed care, death panels, and a reduction of medical advance. After all, what researcher wants to develop a new medicine or piece of equipment if his liability skyrockets and he is under constant thumb of bureaucrats who don't even understand what he is doing?
The Republican majority in the House of Representatives has the power to throw a monkey wrench into the process through their power of the purse. If they Defund Obamacare, the potential to kill this ridiculous law is clearly there. And why not? After all, Obama has carved out special exemptions for so many big businesses and government and to a lesser degree unions, but the rest of us are just seen as pawns to foot the bill and suffer for this wayward and untried experiment in disaster. It is imperative that we keep the heat on John Boehner and his lieutenants and let them know in no uncertain terms that we will not accept his capitulation. Any Republican supporting Obamacare should be primaried in the next election cycle.
So how do we do this? How can we voice our opinion and make sure that Washington knows we don't favor this usurpation of our personal care responsibility? The first thing you can do is sign the petition, dontfundobamacare.com now available on line. This petition currently has more than 1,300,000 signatures and will remain active until October 1. Sign it and then contact your Senator and Congressman and tell them that this law is a travesty and you don't support it. Be polite but be adamant. Do it multiple times; don't let them forget you. An outpouring from constituents is the only thing that Congress seems to understand; they really do forget who they represent. Big business and big labor donations to fund their next campaign generally cancel out your views unless we band together in large numbers to the point where they see their cushy jobs threatened in the next election cycle.
Dontfundobamacare.com is all about separating out the funds for going forward with the program from the appropriation process. While about 70% of this funding is already approved in public law, there is about 30% which can be blocked by Congressional action. This amount, largely for start-up costs, can be stopped if Congress has the will. It will make an already disastrous program even more difficult to make work. Your healthcare and your life may depend on our success in this struggle.
Folks, think about it. What program has the government ever pushed that is truly a success? Both social security and medicare are frought with financial difficulties and their future is a disaster, AMTRAK trains run a less than quality product with huge cost overruns, the Post Office stays in the red, and even the Defense Department, probably the best agency for meeting its objectives, always has huge overruns due to so many cost-plus contracts for favored vendors. This all has to stop if we are ever to get our finances in order and Obamacare is the place to start.
America was founded as a nation of freedom where citizens would make the important decisions for themselves. But as we've seen in recent years, the government wants to tell us what to eat, what to drink, where we can live, what we can spend our money on and, now, they want to control and limit our access to healthcare, albeit at a level of care which is being seriously degraded. Stand up and fight for what is right and what is good for you. This may be your last chance.
God bless you all and God bless America.
