It's simple. It's unconstitutional and the Senate knows it. If it goes over as is it can be blue slipped by John Boehner and returned. It's called a blue slip because a bill not considered because it's not in proper order is sent back without action on a blue form.
Why is it unconstitutional? Bills involving revenue have to be initiated by the House of Representatives. There is a lot of revenue involved in the immigration bill, most of it a drain on the taxpayers. These very taxpayers will, of course, be on the hook for all of the goodies that the illegals will be entitled to if the bill becomes law.
Think of it: dramatic increases in school and medical care costs, food stamp and other welfare programs, and many more items, all being given as a "reward" for illegal behavior. And if you don't think this will happen, Congress will never withstand the Democratic pressure to "take care of" these new "citizens', because citizenship is what the Democrats will quickly demand.
Remember folks, these folks aren't "undocumented", they are "illegal" and have violated the laws that the President is required by law to enforce. Instead he just looks the other way as do many others in Washington.
Actually, I think this is a game being played against the American people and I think there are some Congressmen and Senators of both parties who are trying to work their way around the American people. You see, while there are a lot of elected officials who try diligently to serve their constituents, the organizations that they are part of, the House and Senate, don't give a hoot about the citizens. The leadership is much more interested in amassing and maintaining power and money for campaigns and the public be damned. Why do you think that John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and, of course, the Democratic leaders never want to give a straight answer to a question on immigration? It's because they know they will be caught in a lie.
Unfortunately, I don't believe we can trust Congress to do the right thing and start on immigration from scratch. The problem is that all the big money boys want the borders open. On the Republican side, big business wants plenty of cheap labor. That way they can boost their profits even at a time when so many small businesses are suffering and so many citizens are out of work. Why do you think that Obama is giving big business a "temporary pass" on Obamacare but he won't do the same for the little guy?
As far as the Democrats go, they see millions of new voters, and most studies show that the new voters will likely vote Democratic by a more than two to one ratio. And the unions, well, the union leaders see a huge potential for new dues payers in their unions. They are very much like big business in this case. Who cares about the original American worker? So we find unions taking positions not in the best interest of their current members.
I fear that what will happen is that regardless of the Senate bill, the House will pass something, send it to the Senate, and a conference committee will then be required. Boehner will stack it with his loyalists, those on the dole from the K Street lobbyists, and it will pass and become law. Many Conservative Republicans will vote against it but Boehner has just enough RINOs who, with the Dems, will put it over the top.
Is there any way we can stop this? There is only one hope and that is a massive "speak out" by the God-fearing and normally quiet Americans who see this for what it is--another step toward the death of America. First, sign Ted Cruz's petition: DONTFUNDIT.COM and then get involved. Call your Congressman daily and let them know that you will not vote to return them to office if they vote for this travesty. The only thing they understand is votes. And lastly, tell everyone you know to get involved and speak out. A massive outpouring is the only thing that will work. I for one will never vote to reelect anyone who votes for this bill or who does anything to help make it law--PERIOD.
Being the Sabbath, I'm sorry that today I altered my normal pattern and talked about politics. I try to limit my Sunday comments to my Christian faith and my love for God and Jesus, but this subject is very important and between now and the end of September it will be resolved one way or the other. Stand up for America and do what you can before it is too late.
I will be back later with another entry. It will be more in tune with my usual Sunday thoughts. In the meantime, don't forget to go to church and take time for the Lord. Then enjoy the rest of the day, quiet and with dignity, with family and friends on the Lord's Day. Have a great one and God bless.
