But what amazes me today is how his outlook has gone from bad to worse. Each day he utters another new statement which makes many wonder about the condition of his mind. From a position of blaming George W. Bush for all of the faults in not just Washington but the world, Harry has in the recent past moved his target from "W" to the Koch Brothers.
While many Progressives have bought on to Harry's illogical assumptions, the Koch Brothers are some of the most generous businesspeople in our country. Up until recently when they started receiving his broadsides, they used to contribute to both Republican and Democratic politicians as so many business leaders do to cover all options. After all, if "they" don't get something for their support, politicians lose interest in your business and with that can come all kinds of problems.
Harry has blamed the Kochs for everything from unemployment, racism and even Global Warming and he constantly brings up their name in a vain way as the Leader of the Senate, a place where he controls all debate and the order of business. He seems to like to use them as his whipping boy and he is now even trying to somehow keep them from making donations as is their right to do. Further, he continually says that they are pouring huge amounts of money into elections, citing them as being responsible for all Republican and Conservative initiatives and positions.
Well, I think it is time to set the record straight for Harry, not that he would accept this conclusion if it was right under his nose. But the facts are the facts and, from the outset I will admit that Koch Industries does contribute a large sum to the Republican Party, in fact, they have contributed a total of $18M to the Party in the last fifteen years.
Aha, you say, Harry's right and we got ya. Not so fast.
According to opensecrets.com and its Heavy Hitters: Top All-Time Donors, 1989-2014 list, Koch Industries ranks number 59 on the contribution list with its $18M. And guess who has 11 of the top 15 slots? Unions, that's who. Even SEIU at number 10 has donated twice as much as Koch, $38M, and you surely don't hear Harry complaining about that.
You see, Harry sees the world far differently than those of us who actually work for a living and live outside of the huge liberal metropolitan areas. He truly believes that anything Progressives do or stand for is acceptable but for Conservatives, well, they are clearly evil and therefore it is ok to slander us, lie to us and cheat us. And herein lies the problem with American politics today for in the eyes of Progressives the end justifies the means, no matter how disgusting and outrageous the means of getting there.
So the next time one of your Progressive friends (for we all have some) brings up the evil Koch Brothers, set the record straight for, believe me, they don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. They just spout the party line regardless of the truth. Call them on it, never accept their opening premise in an argument, and ultimately the truth will get out and set us free. And as for old Harry, well his days are numbered anyway.
