Welcome to the New America folks, a place where a shameless government will leave no stone unturned to force its will on good, God-fearing souls who gave America their best. I guess this must be some of the "Change We Can Believe In" that Obama bragged about in both of his election campaigns. Welcome to the Chicago Way, where decency and civility is turned upside down.
For the last two days Honor Flights, those wonderful events where volunteeers use donated funds to fly elderly World War II vets to their national memorial, have been met with government harassment. The vets involved have never seen the memorial which was built in their honor and the trips are a special treat for them before their life ends. In their eighties and nineties, many are in wheelchairs or use walkers to get around and they were all excited to go on this trip in memory of those who they fought side-by-side with and lost in battle.
So what happened when they reached their destination? The government had closed the facility. And it's not really a facility but an open space with a memorial on it that has traditionally been accessible 24/7. The Park Service "goon squad" relented to a degree on days one and two thanks to the interface by two Congressmen who intervened for these living American heroes.
Now, however, the government Park Service "goon squad" is putting up barricades and all types of bunker-like controls to eliminate access. It's reminiscent of what these veterans fought against. And so a shrine which has not in the past cost anything significant to operate is now expending "big bucks' to limit access, claiming it is because of the government shutdown. And a group planning to fly from Ohio to visit the shrine which inquired about access was told by a Park Service representative that if they entered the site after Wednesday they would be arrested.
Do you believe this is happening in America? A group of elderly, honorable citizens trying to visit the shrine might be arrested for trying to peacefully walk through the area. Folks, I hope anyone with a camera gets a shot of that if it happens and I think we'll see a response by America similar to what Martin Luther King did in the past. I think such a photo would be a modern day equivalent of the shot heard round the world.
As I think about this travesty against freedom and the Constitution, I see a very close parallel between this and the story of Delbert Belton, the veteran of the same war who was murdered by several young thugs in Spokane, Washington recently. Here we have the National Park Service threatening to rough up and arrest elderly citizens with the use of a bunch of their "goons" who have no respect for the service they have rendered. If they do this, someone is going to get hurt, and woe be it on those representing the government who caused this.
And just so there is no confusion about this issue, the Republicans didn't do it. Word is out that closing this and other popular shrines was decided directly in the White House. Once again, rather than working to solve a problem, our President would rather make things as painful as possible to try and use against those who disagree with him. Done just like the true street organizer that he is.
America, wake up. Our country is being taken apart piece by piece by people who don't love our form of government or our people. Stand strong and true or else tyranny will control every aspect of your life. Look out your kitchen window. Is it a bird or a drone?
God bless the real America and those brave Americans who will continue to stand for freedom. And these wonderful World War II vets are representative of what we must fight for. Always remember and stand for freedom while standing with God.
